3d glasses

hi i was wondering if anyone has experienced or have any advice on this subject.

my issue is .. is it legal for vue cinema to force a charge of 3d glasses on you if you take the ones you paid for the last time you went?

ive read thread that argue the £1.50 isnt for the glasses but i have been informed by the cinema itself that it is for the glasses and that the charge can not be taken off, if you have your own glasses that you got the last time.. also it annoys me that they expect you to re cycle them as well, knowing that they will be charging you for the same glasses the next time you go in.. is this not illegal and are there not rules and regulation to prevent this extortionate fee... surely they cant force this charge.. the money there making on one pair of glasses each time they sell them on is nothing short of daylight robbery. can anyone help.. is it legal?

I heard that some cinemas (cant remember which) were charging separately for the glasses but while it would suit me I can see why they wouldnt due to the administrative hassle of 2 charging systems. Most places will quote additional costs in the resource involved even if that just means having someone to hand out and collect glasses. I agree it seems rip off but sadly not unexpected
  • i understand if its an issue to have two charging systems but surely . its not legal to charge for something that isn't needed. surely they cant force the charge. or refuse to discount the £1.50 if you chose to bring your own of which you have already paid for.

Just take the pair you bought next time you go see a film, You wont need to pay again.

They can charge what they like if you dont like the prices simply dont go.

think odeon and cineworld charge 80 pence for glasses.
  • @ pcombe...... i do take the ones i bought but were still forced to pay for new ones, even after we say that we have our own. and i don't think we should just refuse to go to the cinema everyone has a right to go, that not my issue, my issue is, is it legal to force the charge when you do have your own glasses... and why should we pay for the same pair over and over again.. why would anyone accept having to re buy the same item they already own every time they wish to see a film...

Ahh that would Pi$$ anyone off that.

I would ask for a refund and leave if they forced me to buy new glasses.

Never been to a vue cinema doesn't sound to good by reviews people leave.

I'll stick to odeon and cineworld ;).

Unfortunately not, they can refuse admission to anybody they like.

Our local odean costs about £9 or £12 fo 3D films :O

We kept our 3D glasses and took them to Odeon at the Trafford Centre and didn't get charged again, but they already charge extra for 3D before the glasses if that makes sense. Never tried it at another cinema though!

I think you're right and that if you take glasses they shouldn't be able to charge you for them, whether that's the rule though is another matter :(

Isn't the extra charge for the 3D movie rather than the glasses? The glasses you get if they're anything like Odeon are rubbish and I wouldn't want to use them.

The cinema closest to me is £5.80 per adult for ALL films, including 3D, except on Tuesday where all films are £3. The glasses that are given to you are excellent, the kind you'd buy to use in your own house, but they have built in anti theft tags and there are barrier things at the door that would beep if you were trying to take the glasses home.

    It normally works as:

XX amount to see 2d film

XXX amount (more) to see 3d Film

and X to buy glasses to the film you've already paid extra for.

Showcase chare £1.50 but if you take your own (that u ppaid for already from the cinema) they do not charge you for it.

Pretty stupid of Vue TBH as their extra money for the 3d movie is paid on the ticket price and the charge for glasses, is, well, for the glasses.

Looking at the website, the difference between 2d and 3d ticket price is £2.85 (normal £9, 3d £11.85)

Are they adding an additional cost onto the £11.85?
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!
  • Vue do not have a cost for the glasses, just a total cost for seeing a 3d film that include the glasses (each and every time).

Other cinemas like an independent one near me charge for glasses but if you take yours back or reuse them then you only have the cost of the film so it is cheaper if you take your own.

Both charging structures perfectly legal. Vue could just say the glasses are free and the charge is the price of seeing a 3d film (which coincidently costs more money to shoot).
