Baxi Boiler - How to re-ignite?

Hi, I have a BAXI Solo 2 80 PF boiler. It has completely shut down with no lights on. The water was set to come on this morning and it did. However, when it came on, the pipework did not sound right in the airing cupboard and after a short while the whole thing shut down.

The timer system was off/blank and I have changed the fuse to this and it is back up and running. However, there is no flame in the boiler, it isn't making any sounds. There is no reset switch and I need to know how to re-ignite it. How do I turn the boilder back on? It is 15 years + old.

Can anyone please help - no hot water or heating!
Thanks

    Hi,

    Is the 'overheat' neon lit?

Turn the boiler thermostat off, ten seconds, turn on.

    GSR.

Check your pump and the 3 amp fuse in the main heating isolating switch.
  • Hi, thanks for your replies:
The overheat neon light is NOT lit. No lights are lit and no sound at all from the boiler.
There is one numbered dial (0,*- 6). Is this the boiler thermostat? I have turned it to 0 and then to 3 but that has made no difference.

I have changed the 3 amp fuse in the main heating switch - no change
The pump you refer to - is this in the boiler? How do I know if there is something wrong with the pump?
I have a megaflow system - not sure if that is relevant.

No lights at all sounds like the printed circuit board has blown.

The pump will be in your airing cupboard, if the system was being very noisy (was it banging?) it could well be that your pump has packed up. If the boiler isn't on, the pump won't be running so you won't know if there's anything wrong with it unfortunately.

    It's a job for a gas engineer i'm afraid!

Or the timers given up, or the wiring needs looking at, if the pump has shorted it out.

Yup. Would be good to know if there is power going to the boiler.

    Hi,

    So programmer is lit.
Boiler is not showing any lights.

You need someone who knows what they are doing to follow the trail of power. If there is power to the boler PCB then...

It might be the PCB fuse, but you need to know why it went in the first place.

Are there any obvious leaks in the cylinder cupboard (or wherever the pump and motorised valve/s are) or around the boiler?

  • Sounds like the most likely thing could be that the PCB board has blown also.

Sounds like the most likely thing could be that the PCB board has blown also.

It's a very basic pcb, the boiler on light, pump and fan aren't controlled by the pcb, so they normally still come on, the fuse on the pcb only runs the pump, so if that goes, the boiler runs but locks out.
No lights at all means either the pcb has really burnt, or the fault is before the boiler.
I'm still with the timer not working, and the noise in the cupboard looking at. Even if the pump had stopped circulating, all the boiler would normally do is overheat and lock out. If the pump went, it should blow the fuse on the pcb. Something blew the timer fuse instead, could still be the pump (from the noise), but the timer is lit up again when the fuse was replaced.
Needs looking at to find out what made the nosie the started it all off.
  • Cylinder Cupboard is dry. Boiler also dry. Timer appears to be normal now amp has been changed.
How do I find out if there is power to the boiler? Need to look at the PCB board? Worth changing the fuse on the PCB board first?
Do you think the water pump in the cylinder cupboard caused the boiler to shut down and this water pump needs replacing?
