Submitting first meter reading to EDF

A bit confused, need to submit an electric meter reading after switching to EDF, electricic switch is progressing but not gas.
after logging to my account I noticed I need to enter my meter serial number, register code, no idea where to find them, date of last meter, last meter reading, I guess that will be the final meter reading with SP. Then there is new meter reading and new meter date which will be the same. Am I correct? Can somebody help with this pl, also when I submit a meter reading, will I be able to see how much I have spent like I do with SP? Thanks

I can see no replies to this thread. I've been looking for information about E7 meter readings.

EDF wanted me to give 2 electric readings but how can I tell which one is night and which one is day? At least on BG website is was clear. Here it's just 2 readings and that's it. Is the top one day and bottom one night or other way round? To make is more complicated online info how to give meter readings say top is low and bottom is normal, but EDF leaflet sent by post say opposite first rating day, second rating night.

In the end I had to phone EDF but even now on EDF website with my day reading figures on top an night reading figures on bottom it doesn't really give you any confirmation what is night what is day. I hope it's not mixed up.. It makes me hate my E7 meter already. I want a single rate meter.

My day reading is 10923, and night reading 1833.. is that order on EDF website correct? They could have made it a bit more clear.

  • Sorry for reviving my thread but it looks like EDF messed up my account unfortunately... I gave them gas meter reading today as expected.. I did it via their automated telephone system and gave them only gas readings only to see my account in this state... My gas reading as night electricity reading! And I spoke to their CS and they say there is an IT problem with my account! What a joke!

I wish I never left BG now. I'm not sure whether EDF is able to provide correct meter readings to BG now. They say they can do it, but I don't trust them now.

Should I give British Gas a ring and provide them with closing meter readings?

You don't need to enter the meter serial number or register code, just the meter readings. :)

Your gas account does not appear to have been set up yet, hence why you have confused them with your meter reading.
I suggest you call them again and speak to a real person giving both your correct electricity register readings

This is not meant to be a trick (or critical) comment, but what was the reason for switching? If it was to save money stick with the process. Keep your own personal meter reading records (suggest by photograph weekly), work out the cost and put the money aside. From time to time prod Edf, but you cannot solve the Edf system problems. Stop worrying.

Also on the E7 meter issue, that is up to you, the householder. There is unlikely to be grounds for having E7 and gas heating. If you want a single rate meter you need to tell the supplier. There may (or may not) be a charge but it is not large in the overall scheme of things.

For the reason I explained in another thread - NO. The transfer readings are not established until agreed between BG and Edf. However you must make sure that there is not an BG "interim final bill" outstanding as it will become overdue after the due date. I did explain how to deal with an "estimated" interim final bill.
  • None of the suppliers have much of an idea about your own particular meter. They dont understand the eco 7 meters themselves. They all can vary so much. Best advice is to work out yourself which is night and day. On most of the digital meters they dont have the sense to put low or normal, its rate one or rate two and a "t" for total. See which rate advances in the daytime, the other one will be night rate UNLESS. your timer switch is so far out of the correct time its now on night rate in the daytime.
  • It's not me who gave them meter serial number and register code.

All they got from me were meter readings for elec on 9th and gas on 19th as requested.

I spoke to real person a while ago only to be told they were having an IT problem with my account... I insisted on them telling me what my elec and gas meter reading are and after about 10 minutes of being put on hold they finally found my electricity meter readings. They don't know when it will appear on my online account correctly though.

I was with BG for last 6 years (never on fixed term contract). The reason I switched was because I read on here that it was worth it. I thought if I can safe some money in the process then why not.

You cannot hurry a broken process. Stop worrying.
  • Hard not to.. I imagine if my account doesn't get closed correctly it will only cause me more trouble :/

I know my day reading is 1 and night reading is 2. That's also what the person who fitted the meter told me. But what is what on EDF website is unclear.

I'd like to change my meter to single tariff, but can I trust EDF with that? :/
