Thanks to the warm weather, ripe tomato production has gone into overdrive and we've reached the point where we can't consume them by ourselves anymore, so started giving them away to neighbours.
Westie dog has done his first swim on Saturday, he already dipped his paws in the water before, but now he went fully in, paddling after his tennis ball. It was as if he had been swimming all his life. I'm a proud dad.
How's dog-dog, LIR?0 -
Some of my tomato plants are going light, and I am concerned the dreaded blight is returning.:(
I've pulled the affected branches off & am hoping it is something/anything else. Lost the entire crop last year.:(
I still don't have a pepper flower or a papper on the plants either.
The only plants doing really well are the onions, spring onions, and lettuce! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Ooooo! Which ones may I ask?
On the tree chopping, we have green bags for taking away greem waste (which I believe they turn to compost). When I chop trees, I spend a week or 2 chopping the branches into little bits to fill green refuse sacks before putting it out for the council to collect. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Lucky you, toms. Blight has got a good third of our crop. (filthy words).
Dog dog is coping. she's certainly got very spoilt. I was talking to a friend last night and saying that despite the pain etc for dog dog its been a harder summer for big dog, who sees dog dog and I go out twice a week without her. And as dog-dog loves being at the vets she comes home and gloats to big dog that she's been out and it was fun.
four more dressing changes, then back to the surgeon for the big reveal. She's using the leg A LOT, walking on four legs as often as three, and when she gets out running on four sometimes too.:mad::mad:
The ulcers are healing really, remarkably well with the honey (hurrah!) so I feel the four dressing changes are acheivable. Bit worried, now its in sight, a bout the splint coming of and controlling exercise. The first fortnight she might go and stay with one of my parents (or both of them as they are still in the same house). Because then she can potter gently not on a lead, here she's got to the point of frustration where she leaps about on the end of the lead when we're doing stuff she so badly wants a run. so the poor dogs have been mainly in ''their bedroom'' ...the room that will be half the dining room. Which good do with a really deep clean and airing now. Its no way for people, even canine people, to live...spending summer looking at outside not playing in it.
dog dog isn't a keen swimmer, but has been river swimming with us. Mainly she likes a paddle, but if we go out of sight she'll plough through and catch up, doggy paddling like crazy. big dogs do not like swimming at all, and will lay down and wait and whimper if you go out of paddling depth!0 -
"big dogs do not like swimming at all, and will lay down and wait and whimper if you go out of paddling depth!"
Does it depend on breed? I know that Labs aren't necessarily what you would call big, but they are hard to keep out of the water and are great swimmers. There was a news story of one being swept off a boat at sea and eventually turning up at home.
I had a lab when I was a teenager, but sadly my wife is not a doggy person, so no dog now, although we have MIL's little dog staying with us.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

yes, lack of clarity...I meant Big Dog, breed of dogs, like I call dog-dog ''dog-dog'' and the other one ''big-dog'', I was refering to dogs of Big-dog's breed.0 -

I bought the Architecture of Happiness because it's something that really does interest me, and the Upside of Irrationality because you told me to, a while backEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Can we have a list of what you have dog-wise, please? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Here you are:
big-dog
dog-dog
we're currently considering getting either:
wooly-dog (dh and I were going to get a wooly-dog the year we were given dog-dog, so we've done a lot of research into lines and breeders and still want a wooly-dog)
puppy-dog (identical to dog-dog but smaller, but not miniture)
or
silky-dog.
I've wanted silky-dog since I was a kid and took one in junior handler classes. But I don't think its going to happen, because dh prefers the other too options.
If I were to have a doggy ambition it would be to own or have good experience of -during my lifetime- each breed of sighthound. I love sighthounds, they are perfect. I some times even get enthusiastic enough to consider aiming to be a group judge, but in all seriousness, its not going to happen. Mainly because I can never be bothered to show myself (a fairly important bit of the process!)...that's another expensive and time consuming hobby. and lots of driving.0 -
Sigh. I just wondered what breed of dog these are, so I could envisage them better and understand your posts better. But don't worry, I'll get along fine without the knowledge. Have fun teasing me, if that is your wont. Humph. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
