Thanks lemonjelly. That "safeguarding" suggestion is really helpful - there are other people in my school who officially suck that particular egg (I just have to pass anything on to them), so the jargon hadn't immediately sprung to my mind.

ETA Am considering getting DS to keep a diary of exactly what is said and done.

The very mention of the word will be enough to guarantee detailed attention! If you explicitly say "I think this is a safeguarding issue" I can assure you they really should take it seriously.

Without knowing your children well enough, I feel it wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment on his experience today. However, I would say the diary idea is superb. Doesn't need to be war and peace. If I may be so bold as to suggest, it is very much worth your son noting down the facts of the events of each day. I'd strongly encourage that he adds a sentence or 2 at the end to say how he felt about the situation (how he feels about it is central to this). It may also be worth you yourself noting a comment after he's written his section highlighting the parents perspective (eg if he is withdrawn, or declines to eat for example).

You're a very intelligent lady. I know you'll make the right choices for him.:)

NB it would look out of place on the board too, to be honest, as it makes sense!:D

We all got sucked in, like water down a plughole. Sorry jelly. Shoes, chocolate, music and solar panels to follow...

Pssst! We only talk cr4p here about shoes, chocolate, bathroom suites, music, comedy & everyday stuff. That rest of the board type stuff, looks out of place!;) Did no-one tell ya?:p

Not a yellow card. It wasn't dangerous play or anything.

Gen, your posts are always interesting, and accessable - which is important. I always learn stuff (& I know next to diddly squat about economics really:o) and I appreciate your humour, and humility & willingness to consider alternative perspectives. And the lack of jargon!:)

    It's all good stuff really.

Tell you what, I'll get me John Lanchester book, & sit at the pc with you & debate so it looks like I know what I'm on about!:D

The people in these trades picked up their bonuses and retired long ago. I know a former bond trader who is now taking fly fishing lessons in the West Country. He's a nice guy and retired aged about 37-ish, possibly on the back of trades like that.

    Wouldn't be J.R. Hartley would it :)

I can't believe I forgot books:eek:. I have been working on one of my other jobs today. How fickle am I that I have already forgot the library!

A Starbar is a 2 bite chocolate bar IMO. Fairly substantial looking, yet once I've had what seems like two bites, I always end up looking for the rest of it and accusing people of stealing it. A Freddo would be merely inhaled.

I worked my way through a snack pack of Cadbury's chocolate fingers earlier. A friend that works fro Cadbury but that doesn't really like chocolate is a very valuable friend indeed. ;)

Lydia, I'm very sorry for what is happening to DS. I can't offer any advice, I just know it would be my worst nightmare for my DS, the same age.
