    My favourite too:rotfl:.

A colleague of mine told me that a French GCSE paper at her former school famously contained the following translation

    Entente Cordiale.....

I went to Uni in the north east in the late 80's early 90's and lots of people did it up there at that time. Not just the students.

I don't remember seeing it in Scotland. There's about a 4 degree temperature difference between London and up there, partly latitude and partly concrete warming effect.

In the US the winters were every harsh, even though it's all quite closer to the equator. Every US state capitol is south of Glasgow, even Alaska's.

they recommend plastic, clingfilm and bubble wrap for windows on the OS board. :)

Bubble wrap would distort the view??

Looking at the super insulated HansHaus built near us. It has lots of windows, but they are all really small - too small IMHO.

The carpy plastic hinge on our shower door broke after 13 months - managed to get the supplier to get the manufacturer to send a replacement - which when it turnd up was a metal hinge - so clearly we weren't the only ones who had had the problem.

In other news, DD has broken the hinge of the new shower screen already. :( I have positioned it in the closed position, so I can still use the shower :) but it's a bit of a pain reaching round to turn the thing on without getting soaked. I've phoned the builder about it and he says he will get a more robust kind of hinge for it. Am really loving being able to have a proper standing-up shower with a decent water flow, though. It's been a long time to be stuck with the choice between bath and pathetic electric shower.

Oh, and DD has been enumerating everyone she loves and deciding who she loves best. I was just pipped to the post by the hamster, "because she's cuter, Mummy, and you're not fluffy, and you're too big for me to pick up". :rotfl:

Another good reason for us not to get the kids a pet...

Nice people, can I ask your advice? We have been invited to a carol concert on the Isle of Wight in mid-December, and we thought we'd make a long weekend of it. Anybody got any suggestions for somewhere really nice to stay please? It'll only be two nights, so price is not too important (Edit: within reason!). It needs to be warm, though.

I'd prefer the IOW itself, because it save a last-minute dash for the ferry, but I guess somewhere on the mainland itself might be feasible, eg the New Forest.

    Thanks for any help.

Our old house had wooden sash windows and wood have looked terrible with anything other than the same double glazed (some did get plastic windows but to me that was akin to defqacing the mona-lisa). We couldn't afford new wooden DG so we used a mixture of secondary glazing with perspex sheets that we removed in the summer and the specail clingfilm that comes with tape, covrs the whole window and you 'hair dry' once installed and it shrinks removing the wrinkles becoming invisible.
    I think....

If I had bubble wrap at the window I'd spend all my time standing there pop, pop, pop!
