What is annoying is that they try to pretend that you can actually do these things online from the comfort of your armchair, when in actual fact doing it online just makes the process harder, more confusing and worst of all much much longer to complete.0

I have a raft of accounts where I've registered and not got a penny in them.... loads. Some I might have £1 in. Off the top of my head NSI have me registered, but I have nothing; some bank in Wales has £1 of my money; Alliance and Leicester - not sure where I am at with that, I think I'm registered with £0 balance; Smile bank - they send me cards even and I've never put 1p with them.... there are more.... loads more.
Nationwide was the last one I didn't manage. I registered for Nationwide and Halifax on the same day. Then they both wanted ID. I know I went into Halifax (40 miles round trip, she said the paperwork wasn't right but authorised the account anyway); then I went into Nationwide round the corner and she said "there's a branch in your town - go there" and I've never remembered/got round to it. I already had 3 accounts with Nationwide, it should be easy!0 -

Don't worry, if the sovereign debt thing keeps going as it is then none of your bank accounts will be worth anything anyway:eek:PasturesNew wrote: »I already had 3 accounts with Nationwide, it should be easy!
You are right, it should and if it isn't then you are dealing with an idiot. If you have other accounts there then you are already their customer. In that case there are 2 possible things:
1. They don't know you. If that is the case they are breaking the law in operating the other 2 accounts for you.
2. They do know you. In that case they don't have to go through the 'who are you?' process as they already know.
Either they know who you are or they don't. There can be no middle ground!!!0 -

not for me!
I only do things like that if nothing dreadful would happen if I forgot. So my limit on stoozing is to use my CC for everything possible, and have a DD to pay it off in full every month, but keep a higher savings balance because of not having to pay for things until the CC bill arrives after the next payday.lemonjelly wrote: »Downside to the halifax thingy is that you used to be able to open 7, then 3 accounts. Now you can open 1 sole account, & 1 joint account only I'm afraid.
That's only one account for me then. More discrimination against single people. What is annoying is that they try to pretend that you can actually do these things online from the comfort of your armchair, when in actual fact doing it online just makes the process harder, more confusing and worst of all much much longer to complete.
Well, I find it easier to do the online thing than go into the branch. It may take longer and involve more steps, but it's easier than (a) finding child-free time to go to the branch or (b) going to the branch with kids in tow.
PS lemonjelly, thanks for your affirmation on the tenancy arrears thread.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
For those of you with kids who like doing it - a quick reminder - the Summer Reading Challenge started today:

Sometimes it is so much easier and less stressful having no money...no worrying about dropping interest rates, no worrying about moving money about at the right time, no worrying about getting stoozing rules right.
On the downside, oodles of worry when something goes bang in your kitchen with no pennies to replace/fix it or when the school comes up with a change of uniform or a school trip.
My savings (loose change jar) is now up to £57.82We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

When I had money (back in the day!) I used to try to do the best I could without it causing me too much stress. The rule of thumb was that if I could arrange my finances on my bosses time then I had it about right.:D
Still can't bl00dy sleep. Arrrrgh!0 -
It seems so random - some let you do it all online, others want you to prove who you are in triplicate - sometimes even if you already have an account with them
What really annoys me is when they want you to send certified copies that cost a tenner a time
