Over the last couple of weeks I have been waking up with a sore jaw (I grind my teeth at night). Anyway, yesterday morning I got an emergency dentist appointment as I had no sleep whatsoever on monday night, I thought I'd got an abcess as it was that kind of excruciating pain
Anyway, I saw the dentist yesterday and she said my teeth were fine and that she was referring me to the hospital for further investigation, she said its probably a form of neuralgia or tmj (sp?). Anyway, after much googling I think it probably is that tmj. Last night was slightly better in that I did manage some sleep, intermittent with taking painkillers
I can only face eating soft food so this may inadvertently help the weightloss plan
but seriously it is sooo painful, it used to be known as the suicide disease due to the constant pain  The dentist said if it doesnt settle down in a day or two she can medicate but she is reluctant to do so, however if I have one more night like that again then I'll be straight back there. It feels like someones got my face in a vice, all my glands are up, it just feels like sooo much pressure is on my jawbones

Poor you, hope the pain goes soon. I have had an abcess before and I know that was awful pain, you cant sleep or concentrate on anything with it. Hope you get some treatment soon or pain killers.0

You poor thing, that sounds so painful. I've had an abcess and I will put that on a par with labour.
I hope you get it sorted soon and well done on the latest win :TIt's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
Managed to get an appointment for the doctors tonight as I still feel no better, she thinks its probably either a virus or the flu. She has given me codeine and said to come back in a couple of weeks if its no better.
Spends today = £41 petrol, £31 sainsburys, £3 lunch, £8 computer game for ds.
My two dresses arrived today too; the one I bought from ebay doesn't fit, it is a size 12 but even if I lose weight I know it still won't fit, its around the top half thats way too small so that will have to go back on ebay. Not too worried as it only cost £11.50 so hopefully I'll make my money back on it.
The other dress though (the brown spotty one) is lushI ordered a big fluffy petticoat from ebay to go under it too and that came today as well (postie must have thought it was my birthday
) and they look fab together
I've taken my codeine, now lets see if I get a better nights sleepMortgage Total: £50,720/ £75,000

**Lurker alert**
I have had TMJ for ages, in my case from clenching my jaw when I sleep rather than from grinding, but I think it all ends up with the same kind of pain.
I got a splint/appliance, whatever the dentist likes to call them. Essentially they keep the teeth slightly apart so that the teeth don't get ground down and the pressure comes off the jaw. It provided more or less instant pain relief for me. There are lots of different kinds of these appliances; some discreet that fit behind the front teeth, others that fit either on the lower or upper teeth and are more prominent, depending on what you pay and the extent of your problem. Price-wise, again it depends. A generic one is tens of pounds whereas a customised one is a few hundred pounds. Worth every penny though to get rid of the incessant pain and they do last. You may need to go to a dentist that specialises in these things (malocclusion is often the underlying cause, particularly if you are waking with the pain).
If you only get the pain now and then, it may be possible to put up with it, though I know from experience that painkillers don't really touch it. If it is a recurring problem, I would definitely invest some time on fixing it because it doesn't just go away with time and you risk damaging the teeth. And I know from bitter experience that dealing with the tooth damage is a lot more expensive than getting the appliance.Mortgage, draw down Sept 2014: £222,000
