High heel shoes (gulp)

Options
Today I bought my first pair of high heels shoes in about 20 years! :j They are pink and shiny and have got 3" heels - and I can't walk in them! Standing is a challenge but walking is definitely almost impossible.

Do I persevere in walking around the house? How long will it take to be able to attend a formal function and be as comfortable as anyone wearing high heels can be?

I've had them on for about 2 minutes and it's brought back to mind my youth, the difference in posture and the pull on my knees. I really, really, really want to wear them (bought my first dress in about the same time frame).

I'd appreciate any advice - of course what I don't want to hear is take them back' :rotfl: as my head tells me that already. My heart is deeply invested in them! :A

I urge you not to think in terms of comfort. In these cases, appearance is everything :rotfl:

I forbid you to take them back LOL!

Walk about the house in the shoes with thick socks on for the day if they still feel really tight hold the hairdryer on them with a warm heat and keep walking about with the socks on, next point would be how your walking, sounds old fashioned but practice heel to toe and you'll feel more confident - Don't take them back!, you'll love them:D

If it helps for the future wedges of any height are easy to walk in and comfy:)
Thank you for this site Martin

Practice! Pull your bottom and stomach muscles in ( does wonders for the posture!)

High heels can be comfortable honestly! I wear 3-4" heels daily during the week and I can walk in them just fine. Even the half mile or so to the supermarket is OK. I do switch to flats when I get home just to preserve my floors.

Some however will never be comfortable. The balance is all wrong somehow. Are they OK when you sit down? If not then they will never be comfortable to walk in however much you practice.

No pain, no gain! Keep persevering and you'll be okay. I had knee surgery and was told "no heels for 6 months"...worst six months of my life!

Thanks for the encouragement! I've tried walking in the house... haven't fallen off but certainly I'll need to do it a LOT more. The years of being a flattie are taking their toll.

Right, off to try again. I reckon 5 minutes at a time is enough to start with. And yes, they are comfortable and fit well, however just too high for my legs. I can feel the tendons and muscles creaking!

    Slave to shoes!

another thing to remember is dont look down ! nothing worse than someone who is clearly uncomfortable with their shoes, if you cant make it fake it ;)
    Bow Ties ARE cool

Done 5 minutes - bought some gel stuff for the soles of my feet. Now I am looking at the shoes with lust in my heart and pain in my head.

Will report back on progress but I'm not confident!

    :T
  • Practice, practice, practice. New pink high heels are worth the effort. :) Just do a few minutes round the house every day, you'll get there, it's just a matter of retraining your muscles and posture - they do fit ok don't they?
    Whatever

Yep - they are a perfect fit which makes the struggle seem all the more worthwhile.

Went out at about 9p.m. last night to get the gel thingys. Haven't worn them today yet but will later this afternoon. Have been trying to walk around on tiptoes :rotfl: to stretch those tendons.

Again, thanks for the encouragement. The shoes are lovely.
