All this snow is making me wonder what I should be packing for when we come home in 3 weeks time! I had been expecting to pack for spring, and now I am wondering if I should pack my thermals instead!

If you are taking commissions I will have a pair of sheep socks for my DH:rotfl:

    They are wonderful!!

Does all the snow mean you don't have to work the holidays because you can't get out or did you sort that with HR?

Had blizzards again yesterday. Ventured into the village to post a parcel and exchange our library books. The OH can't understand why in a thre Kindle household we still need paper books. Nice to get out although the footpaths are frozen and covered in huge snow piles where people have cleared their drives by blocking the path. Our normal half hour walk took well over an hour, but we did stop to have a snowball fight on the common.

The afternoon was blisfully peaceful. Both children departed to read their books, the OH snoozed on the sofa and I pootled about, ignoring the pile of rabbits that need sewing up by Friday.

Chev - I'd bring thermals and wellies and waterproofs and the thickest jumpers you can get your hands on. Not sure about everyone else but its horrendously windy here which makes things seem even colder. You won't be able to buy anything warm on the high street as the shops are already full of shorts, vest tops and bikinis in anticipation of the summer.

EE- The sheepy sock pattern is free on Ravelry, all you have to do is learn to knit :)

Unsurprisingly HR haven't sorted my contract out, I went in on Monday for a couple of hours, the boss is in every day this week as are the floor sanders so hes told me not to bother going in this week (which I wasn't going to do anyway) but to go in at somepoint late next week to clear up after them. Made it pretty clear that I was a tad cheesed off. Will remind him and them that it needs sorting and if it doesn't get done by May I'll be handing in my resignation, timed to coincide with the start of the summer holidays.

Pretty sure if we watch our spending we'll survive without my income. I'd rather it didn't come to that but I've had enough of the place. The cleaner who went on maternity leave well over a year ago is still off and showing no signs of coming back, yet keeps being granted extensions to her leave. Her temporary replacement works a third of the hours that she used to do, one of the other cleaners is doing a few more hours and the rest is just overlooked.

Life is too short ot be miserable and I'm rapidly reaching the point where the place is making me miserable. I don't need stressed staff bursting into tears on me at 8am on a Monday morning, not when the reason they are stressed swans in at 10:15 or 10:30, takes a long lunch break and !!!!!!s orf home early leaving the diligent member of staff feeling she has to work several unpaid hours each day in order to get the job done. Senior management need a swift kick up the backside.

Rant over. Tis the jollidays. Tis sunny out making the snow glow pink and sparkly. Its all a bit magical out. Will be wedging the oiks into their snowsuits and taking them snowdrift spotting. Theres simply no end to the fun here.

Ended up reliving my misspent youth with a dramatic re-enactment of Bambi on Ice at the local sports centre. It took 15 minute of the hour and a half long roller disco to put on three sets of roller boots, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards and helmets but we did it. The girls had a great time depite DD1 bursting into tears because trying to co-ordinate on wheels was incredibly hard. Thankfully after much ignoring of the tears and tantrums she finally managed to wobble round unasisted leaving me free to apologise profusely on DD2s behalf as she mastered the art of speed without first working out how to stop.

Left the sports centre tired, happy and injury fre,e making it as far as the car park before DD2 went !!!! over tit on a patch of ice ending up with gravel burn down one side of her face and a rather large gash on her knee which was nicely swollen by the time we got home.

Spent the evening watching Les Miserables. Unbelievably disappointed by it, the singing was on a parr with Mama Mias James Bond doing Abba. Mind you it was marginally better than Lincoln which was simply tediously dull. Give me a kids movie anyday.

Can't believe I'm halfway through the holiday already. Guess I should be thinking about doing something vaguely productive as a visit from the wrinklies is imminent. My step mother has managed to source Fairtrade Easter Eggs with a handy free childrens bible. Oh joy. Theres nowt like having religion rammed down your throat.

Well yes, but shes several hours drive away and likes to surprise us so an overnight stay wouldn't have been out of the question.... I was attempting to be prepared. So far no news as to when they will arrive but as they are retired (a family joke) I anticipate the phone ringing at 8:03 am today. Not 8:02 or 8:04 but 8:03. Its been like that for years.

Fortunately both oiks will be delighted to receive chocolate. Will be suitably impressed if they've managed to find a dairy free egg with handy free bible since we haven't managed to find dairy free chocolate eggs this year, not that I've looked very hard.

Meanwhile the frantic cleaning in anticipation of the eventual arrival of the wrinklies continues somewhat slowly. In return for hoovering and mopping the kitchen and bathroom floors the DDs aquired extra telly time, although apparently watching Kelly's Heroes wasn't quite what they had in mind. DD2 went to bed early in disgust.

Plans for today are minimal. The world outside our door is rather wet and mushy. The front garden has transformed into a lake thanks to melting snow. Looks like the weight of ice fromthe melting snow on the roof has damaged the guttering so that will need some attention once the roof is clear of snow. Likewise much pruning is needed in the garden to clear the damaged plants. Not today through, its too cold and wet out to do stuff like that.

and so week 2 of waiting for the phone call that never seems to happen begins. Last week I got a barage of e-mails to say my 96 year old grandfather had one foot in deaths waiting room, the last rites had been administered and he wasn't expected to make it through the night. Technically hes been dead for years, hes has advanced dementure at a level which renders him a mobile vegetable so its always been a question of wait for nature to do what a vet would have done years ago.

On the brightside it means a trip home in the not too distant future :)

Spent yesterday cleaning out kitchen cupboards... yes I was VERY bored. Threw out loads of tat and wedged a lot of the worktop occupying clutter out of sight. Managed to cook dinner, whilst reading a book, without burning anything. Hoping another week of domestic drudgery will clear more of OHs random food purchases from the cupboard.

Hoping DD2s knee has heeled sufficiently to go on an Easter Egg hunt in the grounds of Erdigg. I need to get outdoors today.

It's been the mother of all weeks. Don't feel like my feet have hit the ground. Currently trying to come up with an acceptable excuse why I can't make a five hour round trip to be at a funeral which is likely to take two hours and still be home in time to collect the children from wherever they end up and be at work at both ends of the day to open up and lock up because of other things going on.

Then I discovered Hobbycraft have 50g balls of Regia sock yarn on offer at £1 a ball instead of the usual fiver. Did the only one within a reasonable distance of me have any? Nooooo, the one line stock checker lied! So on the off chance that anyone happens to be in a Hobbycraft this weekend and spots some I would be ecstatic if you could cram as many as possible into your shopping basket and ship/courier/post them to me, Paypal is ready and waiting.
