My first time shopping in a new area. I caught the wrong bus there - I'd looked up online which one I needed and didn't remember seeing this number, but it said on the destination bit that it went there so I believed it. Actually it stopped about a mile away, in an area I didn't know, and it was getting late so was growing dark. Then in the shop I lost track of time, and finished just in time to see the bus pulling away from the stop. That turned out to be the last bus back, so I had to get a taxi home which was expensive.

  • My husband has now taken over shopping duties as I now have a job. When he lived on his own, he used to do all his food shopping online so is really not used to the whole supermarket experience.

On Monday, he went to Asda to do the weekly shop. He had done most of the shopping and put some multipack cans of pop in the full trolley. He carried on doing the rest of the shopping until a woman stopped him and told him that something was spraying out of his trolley. He picked up the cans of pop and it turns out of them was split and a jet of coke was spraying out of it and sprayed straight onto some woman's white leggings (I did say it served her right for leaving the house in white leggings!). It was spraying everywhere, the shopping was soaked in pop and so was the aisle. He ended up having to find the cleaner, abandon the shopping and start again from the beginning. The whole experience left him a bit traumatised to say the least.

I've never had anything like this happen to me, it was his second time doing the weekly shop!

I once stood in the queue in Tesco behind a woman I know slightly . She handed over card after card and they were all declined until finally one was accepted My shopping was on the belt so had to stand there pretending I didn't know what was going on.

Bless you for trying not to embarass her.
    Hope is not a strategy.

You poor thing Chazle!! No, I haven't got a nightmare shopping tale to top that, sorry.
It sounds like you got the right cashier tho, bless him.

Going off at a tangent here I have a somewhat happier tale to tell:

I was in Wilkinson's a couple of months back and waiting at the CS till to pick up an item. Little old lady in the Q behind me had to pick up a rather heavy item. I offered to give her a lift home as I was passing near her way anyway. Being of her generation she was a little hesitant in accepting at 1st but was SOO sweet and wouldn't stop harping on in the car at how no-one's ever offered to help her before, and giving it 'you wait 'til I tell my son about this' bla-de-blah.
Turns out she was 92!! She was soo sweet! I had to make a point of telling her as I saw her to her doorstep although it's fine with me she needs to be very careful accepting lifts with strangers and to keep a close eye on her belongings. Bless her!

What I mean to say is it costs nothing sometimes to spread a little happiness sometimes.

This is why I shop online via mysupermarket! Can't handle the stress of the shop. It's also brilliant for saving money as it automatically finds you cheaper items/better deals. Asda always comes out cheaper for me, £20 cheaper than Tesco this evening. It's worth the £3 delivery charge! (although I had free delivery this time as they were late delivering my last order and didn't phone to let me know).

I've abandoned my trolley before, too embarrassed to go back when I didn't have enough money!

Sounds like a nightmare! I can't top that but a women accidentally hit me on the head once with a big bag of porridge oats. It was an accident but it was a bit of a shock!

    On the budgeting front:
Bit of reverse psychology but I shop online at waitrose. Because I have it in mind that they're expensive, I really watch what I order and only get what I need. Usual weekly expenditure for family of 4 = £80. If I shop at Sainsburys it will easily be £110+.
They have some brilliant special offers and quite often have the £15 off vouchers which, combined with their free delivery, makes them excellent value.
Refuse to shop at Tesco (no ethics) and would rather eat my own vomit before I shop in ASDA.
Waitrose are absolutely fantasic, such good produce, amazing customer service, love it.

    Free delivery? How?
I went recently to order and could not find cheap spot.. cheapest was £1.99 if you spend over £70... Otherwise £2.99.. And there were only 2 of those in next 7 days!!
