porting phone number to provider
I went through the process of moving from vodafone to giffgaff today (yea)
it was problem free. My partner wants to move over. Worried about him loosing his phone contacts and less so diary entries.
I can't see what nokia model it is. it doesn't say. So not been able to google any help on moving contacts to memory.
So going to go to vodafone shop to see if they will help.
So when you move the telephone number to another provider do the messages get queued up whilst the transfer happens.
ie what happens during the cutover to any calls / texts made
thank you

Even the most basic nokias seem to have options for copying contacts from SIM > phone memory. Often menus aren't in the most logical order however the manual should make this obvious (and can be obtained through Google if necessary).
You should be able to find the model of the phone by dialing *#0000#
Even after the port has been complete old contact entries on the SIM will still be available although the SIM will obviously not connect anymore
Diary entries will almost certainly be stored on the phone and so shouldn't be an issue but you may want to transfer them just in case (bluetooth transfer is probably available?)0 -
You can also buy sim copiers very cheap on ebay if youve got a really lot numbers but if on phone it should stay anyway assuming your using same phone as before.0

Or just use the Nokia software to sync your phone to your PC or an online service.
Then use your new phone's equivalent to do the same.
Or use an entirely online service like Google Sync.
P.S Like with most phones, the model number is on the label under the battery.0 -
thanks, I am going to check those suggestions out. I think I am going to back up all the numbers externally somewhere... I think the phone generally needs a change. The price of descent handsets seems to have gone up so I am hunting around. Any suggestions greatly received. Nokia preferably.0
