Camping in Mid Wales

Hi there,

We're off camping in Lampeter, Ceredigion soon. :j
Can anyone recommend anything in the area that we must do and see? We have age ranges from 8 years to teens to adults going.

Many thanks in advance!

Hope this doesnt come over to obvious but you are best of googling the tourist information for that area and see what takes your fancy.

Mid Wales is quite rural so you find yourself having to travel from attraction to attraction. There are some great railways in the area, red kite centre, great coastal walks. Aberystywyth is a nice town as is Aberaeron.

    Some good ideas here http://www.walesdirectory.co.uk/tourist-attractions/ceredigion-cardigan.htm

We've looked on the websites and found some places of interest that we will be going to but I was wondering if anyone local knew of any hidden gems that really needed a visit!

I asked a few holidays ago when we went to Glastonbury and had lots of unusual and quirky places that weren't on the tourist trail.

    Many thanks!

    go to tregaron
then take the mountain road to the A483 near the trout inn
    i assume you have transport?
take a picnic and stop halfway for at least 2 hours to enjoy the total tranquility
i do this road at least once every 5 years
if you arent inspired you have no blood:)
devils bridge further up another cracking place and if you can afford the train journey to aberystwyth then go but only for the wetherspoons on the station when you get there as the rest of the place i dont like
new-quay is gorgeous the kids should love it

We've just come back from Ceridigion!

New Quay - you can sit in the harbour and watch the dolphins playing for free or you can go on a boat trip.
Also in that area is New Quay honey farm - small exhibition, not to everyone's taste but we found it fascinating - the kids that were there seemed to be fascinated as well and the cake in the teashop was scrummy!

There's also a National Trust house - can't remember what it's called but it has a fantastic kitchen garden to walk round (probably not too exciting for kids)

Beaches were good in New Quay but a lot of the other coastal places had pebbly beaches - ok to walk on but not for sandcastles.

    Enjoy!!

Errr yeah Lampeter is pretty remote - but I guess that's what you wanted!
I think Llanerchaeron (National Trust, Aberaeron) is probably worth a visit.

The Honey ice-cream in Aberaeron is also worth trying! It's down by the harbour.

The Honey Farm - on the way down to New Quay is excellent (I used to work there - one of the best places I worked - they make their own mead - it's lovely. Lots of their stuff has won TrueTaste awards). It's a lovely way to spend a couple of hours, very peaceful.

Oh - and do visit La Cuccina in Aberaeron if you get the chance. Great cook makes all the breads, cakes and pies, salads - fresh daily. The pies are GORGEOUS! And the cakes are amazing.

There's a harp-making place in Llandysul (The Harp Centre of Wales).

You could arrange a tour in advance

Dolaucothi goldmine in Llanwrda is nearby.

Maybe soak in a lot of the laid-back Welsh atmosphere - have some lazy pub lunches and err...sit around - and errr...learn some Welsh words - very Welsh-speaking in Lampeter. There's a good Cooperative store there!!
Wow - probably really sold the place well to you.

If you do venture a little southwards go to Tresaith beach - got a nice cliff-top walk towards Aberporth - about 2 mile walk. And a lovely pub/restaurant called The Cliff in Tresaith. I love Penbryn too.

Ooh - and the train at Henllan, Llandysul.

    Hope you enjoy your stay!
