Following up italia's post, somewhere on MSE I seem to recall some info about HoF's sale offering maybe 80% off. The Carlisle one today was plastered with signs saying 'Biggest Ever Home Event' -- so I thought they were selling earthquakes -- but then it turned out to be "up to 50%".
When stores qualify their sale offers with these stoopid percentages, why can't they go the whole (100%) hog instead and state:
BIGGEST EVER SALE!!!
UP TO 50% OFF. . .
. . . AROUND 5% OF WHAT WE'RE SELLING. . .
. . . OF WHICH:
90% YOU WOULDN'T WANT EVEN IF WE GAVE IT AWAY FREE!!!!
Bah! Humbug!!!0 -
laserdisc wrote:no the magimix & krups boxes were marked up at 70 have you asked if they have any discontinued models ? in the range, looks like krups 893 0r 897 & megamix m300 are discontinued models that why they are reduced , if they have these models in stock ask them if they will do a price match with other hof store you can only try perhaps your store does n't know they are discontinued lines
My local HOF (Dickens and Jones to be precise) would probably look down on "one" thinking someone had trodden "one" in from the street if one dared to as if they had discontinued stock - in fact it makes Grace Brothers look modern.0 -
codger wrote:Had a look in House of Fraser Carlisle today. Looks like HoF continues to take the view that oop north, we're all made of money: £30 certainly featured in the pricing, but it was thirty quid off £300. Wunnderful, not!
You are a few days too late (sale has been on since Wednesday!), plus you were looking in the wrong bit. The clearance section is where the cutlery used to be next to bathroom/towels section.
There were three coffee machines in stock at £40 yesterday which would have got you £40 rebate (not there today).
I got a picnic basket set today, reduced fromm £150 to £30. Still selling for £140 at JLP and other retailersThey were put out by store staff at 1.30pm and all had gone two minutes later!!
It's not as if HoF are going bust anyway, so WHY should they give stock away at more than 50% off?? - the clearance of old stock is only on because Baugur want to clear out the old stuff now they've taken over.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
yeah, well, withabix, if you'd only said you were going there yesterday when they were forty quid. . .
You're right though about not finding anything. I went to look at their widescreen TVs and they were all made by Antler.
Things've changed since I was last in Binns.0 -
Went to HOF in Glasgow this morning, absolutely C**P.
The best they could do was 10%off the coffee machines.
Wonder if they will put the prices down after the new year?

RE £40 cash back, voucher states that a copy of the receipt must be supplied stating the model number purchased (M300), my receipt just states small electricals, think I will ring the helpline Tuesday0

We went into HoF Bristol based on previous posting and on Friday they still had eight of the Magimix Nespressos in stock £70 with a £40 voucher available.
As far as I could tell the ones in stock are capsule only which means you cannot easily go off an buy your coffee elsewhere and you're very much stuck with Nestle continuing to make the capsules. If they decide to stop / upgrade the design of the capsules or stores delist them then you have an excellent coffee maker with nothing to put in it.
Tassimo (made by Kraft) I understand is soon to be withdrawn from the UK market and the supermarkets won't stock their capsules anymore. Senseo I understand is also going the same way.
So £40 is an excellent price if you could find it but I really wouldn't pay much more for a product that then restricts you to buying all your supplies from one manufacturer (since when has that practice ever led to long term money saving?)
However big thanks to OP because they had other espresso machines in HoF at great prices too.0 -
I might be wrong, but I believe you can get refillable pods ? So you aren't stuck if they stop making them.0

Why can't I find one of these machines? I've even asked someone to look for me and they haven't found one either!TL0
