Hi,
Few days back, I browsed througg MSE and got to know about sipgate.co.uk where one can register and have on UK landline number assigned to your PC/laptop
I have just done that and downloaded the softphone software XLITE and that's working perfectly well..
I just wanted to know, if I use an ATA (Analog Telephone Adaptor) that supports SIP (Session Initiated Protocol), can I use my normal telephone equipment as IP phone??
Can somebody let me know whether it works fine?
Also which ATA that can be used for this purpose..
Thanks a lot!

yes your phone plugs into the ATA. Sipgate themselves sell a reaonably priced ATA. THey also sell WIFI SIP phones (if you already have wireless network). The ATA approach is the cheaper (and better in my opinion). You can buy a cheap phone and have two physical phones in your house (a cheap DECT phone is ideal). VOIP phones should not be relied on as an emergency phone by the way

Thanks for the response..
I have found this cheapest(?) one:
http://www.voipon.co.uk/avm-fritzbox-fon-wlan-p-288.html
This products integrates:
1. ADSL+ Modem
2. Wireless Router
3. ATA (Analogue Telephone Adaptor)
Anyways, I was planning to buy on Wireles Router, hence this will do all the stuff..
Any thoughts for finding cheaper price ??0 -
How about this one from a more common (but highly regarded) manufacturer ?

This model is also sold by more vendors so gives more opportunity to shop around.
Thanks
