Few Questions - Building New PC

Hi,

Just a quick question,

Do you get a cooling fan in the Retail Boxed Versions of Pentium D Processors?

Is THIS MOTHERBOARD Compatible with the following Components

DDR2 1gb PC2-4200 RAM
PCI-Express Graphics Card
DVD Writer
SATA Hard Drive

Im ok at putting it all together but not very sure with buying the correct equiptment. Any help much appreciated!

Cheers,

  • yes and yes, although thats a sataII drive so you'll have to set some jumpers on the back of it as the board only accepts sata.
  • cheers mate!! i think i will order the rest now.

Can any1 also tell me what cables i need to purchase??

    Cheers,
    Jake
  • Is your budget rigid or can it be worked with? Because unless you really want all those parts i'll see if i can put a rig together for a little more but a bit better.

  • How much more are you saying, £50, £100?

I can maybe stretch to a bit more, but i have already bought everything apart from the Ram, Mobo + Processor.

  • No more than £50, it would be unreasonable. But i'm thinking about the motherboard and RAM mostly. A good motherboard and good RAM would make this pc able to last a long time as you'd be able to just replace parts out in the future in there without changing much else. Thats a good processor you've chosen there, all we need is some good RAM to compliment it. You could try and push it a little farther also, a small overclock to say 3.2 Ghz would be easily acheivable.

  • One more thing, on ebuyer you're buying 1 stick of RAM are you likely to buy another one in the future or could i get you 2 sticks of 512 instead?

  • Try and use quidco to get a bit back on the memory, But you won't get much, if thats too much i'll try and go cheaper but thats a pretty good machine. In regards to overclocking, once you get it up and running look at your temps and maybe take a look at overclock.net and get some advice.
