MSE News: Npower axes cheap energy fix ahead of price hikes

I switched a month ago even though my eon fix still had a few weeks to run - took my electricity to the go fix 6 which was extremely competitive and my gas to the eon age concern capped which was cheaper than the go fix 6 gas and lasts a year longer too.I think....0

Very nice comment. Thanks Jack.
:rotfl:
Obviously I was not including those people who cannot switch for legitimate reasons due to their individual circumstances. Not everyone can jump - many people will be locked in with a penalty charge for switching, or be in debt to the supplier, which will stop them switching.
It is very likely that the fixed tariff is going to save more than the cost of the penalty for switching, so could have changed tariff anyway.
Having not had any personal experience of this scenario, I cannot be 100% sure, but I would assume that, if in debt with the supplier (NPower in this case) they would still let you change tariff and stay with them, so that part of the argument would be mute.
Staying with the same supplier and just changing the tariff with them is done on the day you phone them, no delays like those involved with switching supplier, too late now in the case of NPower since the fixed tariff has ceased. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The whole business of switching between suppliers is a complete sham, which actually saves very little, and in a lot of cases actually ends up costing the consumer more, according to a recent Ofgem report. The "Big 6" operate what is effectively a cartel, using a bewildering array of differing tariffs with the end result that you pay pretty much the same for your gas & electric whichever one you choose.
Also a big con are sites like Uswitch, who get a commission of up to £90 if you switch providers using their site. Who do you think ultimately pays that £90? Yes, it's you.

Anyone know what the penalty charge is for switching from one n powers schemes... I'm on go fix 2?0

And bargepole you're right about cartel systems but that is true of everything: supermarkets, garages and motor car suppliers, to phone companies, banks & certainly power suppliers.
Often it's an non verbal understanding but very often it is behind executive closed doors deliberate, concerted and planned (allegedly).0 -
Presumably those of us already in the process of switching to N-Power should have their agreement honoured?
I just wonder what these games of musical chairs must be costing?
I am in the process of switching from EDF because the fixed price offering from EDF came up as considerably more expensive than N-Power's, all be it that you have to stay the course with N-Power or lose the deferred rebate.
What does ETC stand for?0 -
I switched to Npower through Energy Helpline.com. I recently noticed an email from Npower dated 13th July saying...
"To ensure you get the great prices that you signed up for, you must activate paperless billing as a condition of your contract .
To ensure paperless billing is applied to your account, please review the terms and conditions and then click on the link below to create your online account. By doing this, it will allow us to automatically setup paperless billing once your supply has been transferred to us. We will notify you again by email when this happens. "
However, by the time I read the email it was after 15th July which is when they pulled their go fix 6 offer. When I clicked to read the T&Cs the offer 'Go fix 6" is not mentioned anywhere. Also, I only switched to them for electric - not gas. But this is not clear on the T&Cs.
Do I still qualify for their offer?0 -
Hi, I think you are worrying unnecessarily, have you received your account number yet?
You can't set up paperless billing until you get your account number ( not your application number ).0
