I beat NPower to it, I fixed last month because I was expecting them to axe the tariff anytime soon. (I also got my parents to switch to the fixed tariff too)

The writing has been on the wall for long enough, so anyone who misses switching to a fixed tariff .... well lets just say I have no sympathy. :)

Not everyone can jump - many people will be locked in with a penalty charge for switching, or be in debt to the supplier, which will stop them switching.

That's very true. I am fixed until 1st of August, I know it takes sometime to switch but not sure if I can apply now to grab a deal so that the start date is effectively August?

My current tariff with npower ends at the end of this month. I rang them earlier this week to move onto Go Fix 6 once my current tariff finished and they asked me if I wanted to do it then or ring back at the end of the month. I did it then, just in case they pulled it!! I would assume they would have to honour the agreement to switch, even though it doesn't start until 1st August.

Switching takes 4-5 weeks. If you do it today then you will not be on supply by 1/8!
An ETC does not lock you in, if the saving is more than the ETC, then go ahead anyway.

If you have already signed up, you get the tariff that was in place when you signed up.

I'm surprised it hung around this long to be honest. I expect price increases to be announced by npower next week now.

Obviously, this is the first evening that I've had to try and look for a dual fuel fix. So pleased that the best deal has gone. :(

Anyway, no point crying about that - quick question. I'm currently an npower customer and I've been looking at the switching sites which have been advising me to move to the price protector tariff. But when I had a separate look on npower's own site it says price protector is available to new customers only.

Are the switching sites ignoring me when I tell them I'm already an npower customer or do they get special deals that the companies don't offer via their own sites?

If you look at the tariff details on the comp site results you should find that it says 'this tariff is available to new customers only'. It won't suppress the tariff from the actual results.
Looks like EDF is the only game in town now as far as fixing is concerned.
