Stupid question alert...

But how do I make salt water??
Had to take my little guy to the vet yesterday as he's got an infected wound in his foot, probably caused by him fighting with another cat or something. This is how he came home:

The vet gave him an antibiotic and a painkiller shot and I've got to keep him in until next week. I've got to take him back to the vet on Tuesday just to check that it's healing ok.
Anyway, the vet said that if my cat will let me, it'd be good to bathe his foot with salt water to help the wound, but I don't know what sort of salt to water ratio I need to make up! I know it's a ridiculously stupid question, but I don't want to stress him out by making it too salty and it hurting him more than necessary. He's hating the collar, and the fact that he can't go out!
Thanks!
Eta: sorry the pic is massive, have uploaded it on my phone! I'll try and make it smaller...

Awww sweatheart!
Hope the foot's on the mend soon.
Agree with Waterfalls - if you need to do a couple of times a day, boil a kettle full, let it cool, then pour into a sterile container - it can be a real pain trying to get the water cool enough!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Haha it's hilarous!! The cat flap is currently set so that we can let our other cat out through the front door and she can come in through the cat flap, but they can't get out. Yesterday he was spending ages clawing away at it, trying to get out. After spending this evening listening to him whine and whine at not being able to get out I think I may be out a lot this weekend!
It's going to be a loooooong weekend!:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -

to be honest I don't think the ratio matters - regular cleaning does more so.0

It does if you put too much salt in - poorly pooch legging it round the room on 3 legs waving the fourth one madly in the air because bad owner has overdone the salt makes for one very guilty feeling owner indeed. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

..other than the fact that it'll sting like mad if you put too much salt in, and the cat will never let you near his foot again!!
A teaspoon to a pint is enough for cleaning.0 -
Nothing constructive to add other than that's one cute cat! I do love ginger cats
Hope he feels better soon. Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.0
