Just to warn folks that I bought a new Apple Iphone from Ebay and then looked here for mobile phone insurers.

I used CUSC but had a call today to say I can't insure a phone bought from Ebay as they want a receipt from a shop or retailer. I said that it was brand new and I could send the Paypal receipt but they said it still could not be insured!

Just to let folks know and if anyone can think of how to insure the 400GBP phone and contract if lost!!?

TIA

Problem is there's no providence, you know you paid for it but where did the vendor get it from. Is it a legit UK model from a UK distributer? Will the seller report it lost in a few month to get another one on his insurance, It may well be fine but the paper trail is harder to follow, and there are too many potential issues to insure..

Maybe but in my experience when item's get damaged the first thing the loss adjuster will ask for is the reciept...

Who did you buy it from - was it a private seller? Then it's not brand-new, even if it's in the box and unopened.

The seller of the phone is registered as a business seller on Ebay.

They wont need a receipt if you ever need to make a claim (which hopefully you wont) a box is enough for the insurance company to pay out

Dont see how buying off Ebay makes any difrance if hes a buisness he should be able to give you a receipt the same as if the seller had his own website if hes VAT registred you can ask for one.

The receipt is the first thing they look for. You are required to have proof of purchase.

I was in the exact same position as the OP ebay purchase, no receipt. I took out Royalties gold with the insurance, having called the Insurance company and ask them would i be covered if i don't have a receipt I was told. Yes you'll be covered we'll need a proof of usage from the network that you used the phone on the network.

So I took the policy out, but wasn't convinced.

I waited a month and called the claims line and told them i'd lost the phone and the girl asked me to post the receipt. I said I don't have a receipt and I was told a proof of usage was all that was needed. She said no we require a receipt AND proof of usage so we can't pay out.

At this point I told her I hadn't lost anything, I was just checking where I stand. Royalties gold cancelled straight away.

What about phone upgrades? They don't come with proof of purchase or a receipt? Are these uninsurable too?

upgrades do come with a recipt, its on the dispatch form
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
