Can't connect Android phone to Windows 7 laptop

Hi there, I have an HTC Magic phone but I can't connect it to my Windows 7 Laptop.
On my home XP computer I plug the USB lead in then the screen shows the android logo and you press the button to connect to the PC (so that I can copy files to and from). On my work Windows 7 laptop it doesn't do this, all it does is show the battery charging.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

does the phone say "charge only/disk drive/htc sync/etc" my desire does. However since it's a "work" lappy it probably hasn't loaded the usb drivers. I use myphoneexplorer from the market and it's windows server from here, it connects via usb and wifi too.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Nope it doesn't say anything.
Note I work for a small company so we don't have any ott IT dept. that disables USB ports to prevent viruses etc......0 -
Try installing HTC Sense/Hub or whatever the app is called off the HTC website. THis will include drivers if W7 doesn't have them and get them automatically.
Are you using a HTC cable that came with the phone or a different one?0 -
I'm just using a normal USB lead.....0

And it works on other machines?
Have you downloaded the PC app yet and tried after that?0 -
I have installed HTC Sync and it says that nothing is connected!
It works on my home XP machine, without having to install anything......0 -

Have you got itunes installed?
I had a problem once with HTC Sense not working with itunes installed. Got rid of itunes, didn't use it anyway. Told HTC about it.0 -

I have a Sensation and that works fine with my own W7 laptop with both Itunes and HTC Sense installed.
Just to be sure Dave; is this the same cable too?

Its hard to tell - maybe try doing complete uninstall / install of HTC Sense (using latest version).
You might also want to send an email to HTC through their support page, they were pretty good at responding to my queries.0
