Help - Potterton Boiler Probs

Hi,

I have just moved into a new property adn have a Potterton Combi Lynx boiler. We initially turned it on for the first time and there was leak because the water pressure was too high and it burst a valve. This was fixed by the plumber and the pressure was returned to 2 bars. We now have a big problem with the heating and hot water, basically when you put it on, it heats up for around 1 1/2hrs then cools down with no heating or hot water even though the demand light remains on. When you attempt to time it the heating does not come on or get any hot water. The way you get it back is by actually turning the boiler off and then on again and it works for the next 1 1/2hrs again. Please urgently advise!

Thanks
Andy

  • Could be any number of safety cutouts that are latching on either with or without reason. eg internal stat warning the boiler its too hot and cutting out.

What does the manual recommend for the CH loop, the combis i've seen are all at 1 bar and dependant on the pressurisation of the expansion chamber this will rise when the CH is on and the water is at full operating temperature.

When the boiler has been running for 1 1/2 hours what does the pressure get up to?
  • Hey,
did you manage to sort out your boiler problems? I seem to haev a similar problem.Mine starts attempts to start then can't, need to turn it off/resset it sometimes once sometimes a few times and then it does start but only stays going for about half hour to a full hour. I have had people out to lok at it and they reckon its the Flue/balance as all of the parts work. Can't find anyone to look at that problem though!! any suggestions more than welcome!!!

    Thanks

If its a fan assisted unit it could be the fan on its way out, only just pushing enough air to keep it going most of the time.

Last potterton I had troubles with the diaphram on the air pressure sensor used to rip and thought the fan was running because the air pressure sensor would occasionally say the fan was failing it would shut the boiler down.
