Hello.
My dad has been with Vodafone for a number of years, and after having his phone stolen, he has just been informed today after contacting them enquiring about the SIM (after being misled since Sunday that a new replacement SIM would be sent), that he actually has no contract with Vodafone.
The phone was reported on Sunday, we were informed that a new SIM would arrive Monday.. Which didn't happen. Again, that it would take 2 to 3 days rather than the one day as said.
We received a replacement SIM yesterday, however, it said that it was not registered, and wouldn't be done so for a further 72 hours.
When he contacted them, they said they didn't know why it would take so long, and that he was no longer in a contract with them. When he asked when this contract finished, he was told by the customer service man that he 'wasn't sure'.
He was surprised, as he has not received any format of comminication from Vodafone to state as to when his contract was up for renewal.
They have however, still been debiting his account monthly, and sending him bills, even stating a misleading section on his 'allowance savings'.
Where do we stand on this? .. Are they allowed to still debit an account when there is no legal contract to do so?
This process seems to have been misleading..

Most companys seem to still do this so im guessing it is still legal. You are best just to look around now for either new contract if you require new phone but rember to make a note of the contract start and end date or go for paygo I recomeny icon mobile(vodphone) or GiffGaff(02) for paygo.0

When you sign upto a contract you are limiting yourself in essence to a min term, if you donot cancel within this term then you have a rolling contract.
If the contract was finished you can ask for a PAC code and get a new contract with another company and keep your old number.
As for the earlier poster, GiffGaff was ok when they did the specail offers, but now its not that good.
anything to do with vodafone I stay away from they are just crooks, robbed me £20 and never gave me back (I got a call and I was charged £20, nobody told me it was a reverse charge call).
I dont have a phone with them anymore but would love it if I did as I would sue them when they slip up.0 -
Thank You for the advice.
Okay, so it seems that it can be legal still, but when we did call and ask them for the PAC code (we have found a contract with another company) they are saying that they can't find one, as there is apparently no contract.
He is self employed and this is his company phone and it is the only number that he has had for years.. So he is frustrated at this process, as he has also been nearly 7 days now with no work due to their mistakes and delays

If he has a business contract there should be procedures in place to help mitigate this.
If it's jsut a customer contract then there is very little recourse.
Business contracts tend to cost more but they have extra benefits that cover cases like this.0
