resort close to Alicante or Palma airport

Hi,

We are off on one of our weekend jaunts soon and the only flights that fit in to our times are to Alicante or Palma.

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a resort within around 30 mins taxi drive of either. We are looking for a beach and somewhere fairly lively possibly with a bit of entertainment but under no circumstances can it be Magaluf. We stayed in Palma Nova a few years back and ended up in Magaluf by mistake on a night out. It was ok when I was in my early twenties but we're past all that now.

We went to Calan Porter in Menorca last weekend but that was a bit quiet for us, to give you a bt of an idea what we are after.

Once we decide on a resort I can book accomodation.

Thanks

Barrie

Don't discount Alicante itself. The hotels may be a bit more expensive than further out but the beach is very good and there are loads of bars and restaurants around with a more up market nightlife which is not dominated by the Brits Abroad. It's only a short taxi or bus drive from the airport.

we were looking at el Campello which is on the tram route from alicante. In the end it didn;t fit in with our plans but looked a nice spanish holiday place within striking distance of Alicante. don't know about hotels as we were looking at self catering
  • I've had a look at Alicante itself but we were hoping for all inclusive as it saved us a bit of money last time. I'll have a look at el campello now

Can Pastilla is 5 mins in a taxi from Palma airport ,not very lively though but you could walk into Arenal which is busy although loads of Germans there
    Have a nice day :)
  • As much as I shouldn't say it these days but it's the germans that put me off Arenal.

On the Alicante side of things, is Benidorm really that bad? Although we dont want Magaluf, I'm 33 and the mrs is 29 so a fairly lively place will be needed.

    Then Benidorm fits the bill
Yes you get the 18 to 30 crowd but there is plenty of showbars for lively entertainment
    Have a nice day :)

Yes, it's that bad. Just like Magaluf.

Benidorm is just about OK for a day trip, just to say you've been there. El Campello is nice enough, but maybe a little too quiet - but, again, it's fine for a day trip.

The tram system really is an excellent (and it's being expanded) way to explore the coast. You can try a resort and if you don't like it move on to the next one. I'd still recommend stopping in Alicante itself for the restaurants and nightlife.

Benidorm is fine; i've been a few times. You can either head right into town for all the decent bars or you've got the family bars off the main square, where they have entertainment. so you can start off in the quieter ones and then head into town towards Linekers and Beachcomber etc.
