Somewhere 'nice' to go abroad

Hi everyone,

I am looking for ideas for a holiday abroad next year (which will also be our honeymoon).

We are 27/28 but are after somewhere that is quite 'nice' e.g. no drunken people sprawling everywhere! But with restaurants and drinking places where you can sit out till late. We would also like a decent beach.

I don't want to spend too much though, and all the cheaper options tend to be in places like Benidorm - don't get me wrong I'm sure there are lovely places in Benidorm, but I don't want people to ask 'where did you go on honeymoon' and to have to say that we went to Benidorm :o

So far my research has brought me to Menorca - am I on the righ tlines? Has anyone been there, or can anyone suggest somewhere that might fit our bill?

Thanks in advance!

  • We went to Menorca a few years ago, it was lovely and pretty much as you have described what you are looking for, it was also very clean generally and had a lovely beach.

Villamoura or Lagos in Portugal. Lovely places which fit your criteria.

I'd second Portugal. Beautiful country and the restaurants are amazing.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

Sitges is nice. Hotels to suit all budgets including some which are old and romantic. Lots of good restaurants and quite a few nice cafes / bars. Excellent beaches. 20 mins on the train from Barcelona. We love it.

Thanks for all the replies - I did think about Portugal but for some reason I was always under the impression that it's expensive over there? Mind you I have no idea it's probably expensive everywhere these days! I shall look into all your suggestions, thank you very much!

Try and find a country where the British don't go too in masses ? difficult, but worth trying, I always go to the Greek Islands, but not Rhodes, Zante or Corfu

How about Nice or Cannes? Is really nice there and you can easily take the train to visit Monaco. We've rented a flat near Cannes two years ago for 600 euros for 2 weeks, really nice, beach views and balcony. Easy Jet flies to Nice airport and then you can take a bus to Cannes for 1 euro each.
