Enter your post code into this site to find out where the nearest digital transmitter is located and what aerial is recommended. Unless you are close to a transmitter, you will not get reception without a decent aerial.

Make sure you are using a USB2.0 port as 1.1 could do this... Also which version of windows are you using?? Which software are you using?

but this item i have purchased is supposed to work anywhere outdoors, even in the car (though the aerial provided is bit too small)...

i think i am sure i am using usb 2.0 on my laptop coz it would have said that "this is cmpatible with usb 2.0 etc"...wudnt it ?..software is called totalmedia...version of win is Windows Xp !

If it says that in writing then I'd return it for a refund - freeview is hard enough to get with a full size TV aerial & these laptop ones are certainly nowhere near as good - I've tried 3 different ones now on my laptop & given up - they're all as bad as each other unless you're in a high signal strength area.

As far as I am aware not all USB devices give warnings... In fact the only devices I know that give warnings are flash drives and windows will tell you it can operate at a faster rate.... My DVB-T device got no warnings from my laptop and it is definately USB 1.1 so it might be best to check if you have a USB 2 port. Tell us make/model of machine...

Also.. these things DONT work anywhere outside... You still need good quality signal and as for using the small ariel then you will need excellent signal strength..

So what aerial is recommended on that website and how many miles are you from your nearest transmitter? Basically those aerials just don't work unless you can see the transmitter!

    errrr - no it isn't

from your original link to ebay

This products require that you use a high-gain roof antenna to enable and enjoy reliable Digital Television reception throughout the UK. The portable antenna that we provide should only be used and relied on in areas where the Digital TV signal reception is optimal. (Some countries or regions can have different reception conditions, and the environment in which you are viewing can be affected by various factors: Proximity to the Digital TV transmitter, heavy/ tall building constructions and thick walls or ceilings.) Portable or mobile Digital TV reception in cars, trains or airplanes etc. is normally not supported.

methinks the OP needs to read adverts more closely, but then don't we all from time to time?
