British Gas Pay-As-You-Go meter questions

I have moved into a rental property with BG prepayment meters. BG tell me that its not more expensive to pay via prepayment meters but I know I am putting in far more money on the key meters than I used to pay by direct debit for using exactly the same equipment. I still run the current cost meter that tells me how much I use a month. Its set at the rates I used to be charged.., and it says I am using £25 of electricity a month.., I am putting £60 a month into the prepayment meter.
I tried to change to credit meters with British Gas.., was warned their criteria was quite high and failed their credit check, in spite of not having bad debts on my credit listing (I do check).., altho I am not working. Apparently they look for ratings of 850 plus.
Like the OP.., I seem to be stuck.0 -

DD is cheaper, prepay rates are the same as quarterly bill by cash/cheque.:money:0 -
prepay rates are the same as quarterly bill by cash/cheque.
BG pre-payment tariff: about 15 p
Competitor: about 9 p :T
All factors included, saving by switching away from BG: over 25% according to independent source. :cool:0 -
Just had a quick look at prices for my postcode ( London ).

The BG quarterly cash/cheque rate is the same as prepay.
I can only assume that you`ve compared to a company that hasn`t announced an increase.. yet.:money:0 -
Hi, I may be slightly off topic here but it is about pre payment meters. The gas people have been renewing the gas piping in my street. I live in a flat, just 2 flats downstairs and 2 upstairs. We were told our meters were going to be moved from in the kitchen to outside, so far so good. Meters were moved, men finished work for weekend. My upstairs neighbour then came to say that they had put the wrong numbers numbers on our meter cupboards. Later I went to look and I first thought he was right but then checked where the piping went and I thought they have connected up the wrong way round. Called BG but told them I might be out but they could check outside anyway without me being there. Came back to find a card through door saying they had got no answer!!!! Rang again, explained AGAIN and a man came out to look. He said no you have the right meter, got me to run hot water and pointed out dial was moving on meter. I said yes but it doesnt look like my meter, there was writting and stickers on it that mine did not have but he made me feel like some stupid woman! Later after he had gone I was still thinking about it so took my gas card and put it into my supposed meter. It said gas card not accepted, tried it in other meter and it was fine so my meter is connected to neighbours gas supply and his meter is connected to mine. Now waiting for them to come out yet again, I was beginning to doubt myself but now know I am right. Hope its the same gas engineer so I can say "told you so". Childish I know but satisfying. Hope this gets sorted today!0
