British Gas Pay-As-You-Go meter questions

Oh, and on the original topic, different companies have different criteria for meter exchanges. Just because you have failed the British Gas credit check leading to this charge, it doesn't mean that you'd fail one with another supplier.

Some suppliers do a credit check and then charge a large deposit if you fail, but I doubt they all use the same pass and fail mark. Other suppliers will just charge you straight out. The fee that they charge will be a lot less than the deposit, but you won't get it back either. There may be other suppliers that do other checks, I'm not sure, but those are the usual two ways.

ive had a pre payment meter in my house since i moved in 7 years ago and its the most simplest way to pay gas with no bills every 3 months im a customer of bg for gas and electric and i have never had no problems with them a couple of weeks ago my meter broke down they was here within half an hour and changed my meter BG is a good company

I havent had any issues with BG, the reason for wanting to change is the recent price rises on the PAYG tariff. I dont really fancy paying an extra 16-18%

i only put £10 a week in my meter and with 4 kids i use a lot of heating and hot water so its only £520 a year i put in mine which i think is really cheap

It does to me; it is still the same company, and they still have more complaints upheld than any other energy supplier. That clearly shows they can not be trusted.

Bengasman is just another I Hate BG.... Because I do. energy suppliers are all the same, expensive get over it.

So what you're saying is that if a company does twice as much as another then they should still have the same number of complaints? Don't buy a Playstation because Sony (not Sony Playstation, but Sony in everything they do) have more overall complaints than Nintendo, who only make games consoles.

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. Absolutely.

In your theory if Sony (made up numbers) make 200 different products and get 50 complaints (.25 complaints per product), while Nintendo make 5 prodicts and get 40 complaints (8 per product) then everyone should still buy the Wii.

The more products a company have the more complaints they will get. It's pretty simple logic. I'm asuming that you never shop in supermarkets or buy big brands? As I can guarantee you that they have more complaints than corner shops and indipendent producers and you aparently don't care about the reasons behind complaints.

It makes no difference whatsoever how many different products BG/Centrica sell.
What matters is that they lie more than any other energy company.

Contact the ombudsman and/or similar organisations; with a BG pre pay meter, you are paying an absolute rip off price per kWh. Compare the BG price per kWh ( comparing unit price in kWh is one of the few ways that can not be manipulated ) with other suppliers on normal meters. ( get ready for a shock )
Bad idea to move to BG in the first place, but that is a different matter.

If you compare just on upheld energy complaints over the last 5 years then British Gas are equal with another supplier (I think it was npower, but I wouldn't swear it) and only one or two more than most of the rest (with a total of somewhere arround 10). Not exactly this all conclusive, terrible thing that you keep going on about, is it.

We all understand that you don't like BG, but why don't you try to persuade people by using your experiences (assuming that's the reason for your dislike) instead of massively misrepresenting figures and trying to mislead people (which is exactly what you accuse British Gas of after all).

BG are the leading supplier with approx 18m customers. How many do the others have which they are being compared to.
