The rumour is September 7th although most people seem to think it will be later on in the year.

Which would be typical apple. They like to milk their gadgets, and since this one is doing so well, it would make sense that they would keep it the same cosmetically. They'll probably just upgrade the processor and increase the memory. Maybe chuck on a fractionally better camera.

I've heard it's going to be a later release, more like October/November.

I've read rumours (Metro newspaper, various websites) that there wont be such a big jump for the 5, there wont be much of a change at all in terms of updating, few bits of fine tuning that sort of thing but nothing massive.

Apparently the nano's where its at in terms of being changed and updated, the nano tends to be what they experiement on (this according to an Apple worker).

That last nano was brilliant cosmetically, beautiful little gadget. They removed video for no good reason though and so I boycotted it. Typical Apple.

Video requires a camera, and given the size of the thing, I doubt there was any room for one ;)

Video playback, I mean. I had the nano... 3rd gen is it? No camera, but movies looked brilliant. I used it all the time until it got stolen. The 4th and 5th gen ipods both had video playback too, but the feature was removed on the 6th.
