Wireless broadband cuts out - making a phonecall fixes it?

Changing the wireless channel takes 5 mins. But if you test first using ethernet, that will eliminate the problem is it's a wireless issue. You just neeed to work through one by one to rule things out.
Noise on the line-if no master, test from the first socket in the house. If still noisy, using a corded handset, report it as a line fault to your line rental provider. Do not report it as a broadband fault.
Trailing extension leads are always a very bad idea, avoid at all costs. Run the router straight off the main socket. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Is your cordless base station anywhere near to the router, if so move it well away.
They are known to interfere with the wireless signal. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Ok going to have to wait until monday to get a cable to test it wired and also a corded phone. Thanks everyone x0

Hi, Just thought I would update in case anyone is interested or has any further advice. My internet is still going off constantly and ringing 1471 temporarily restores it. I have tried the following :
Plugging corded phone into wall (there is no line noise), plugging corded phone into wall through filter (no line noise), Connecting via ethernet, new filters, removing extension leads, New router, back again to old router, ringing Orange support!!!! They just get me to reset router etc etc no good whatsoever.
So it seems my prob is with the line but as their is no line noise I can't call BT and Orange just keep getting me to reset router and pointless things like that. I feel like changing my provider but I didn't want to do that just yet as i'm moving to a different town in the next few months and was keen on getting the superfast broadband if it's available at my new house. I'm also worried if I change provider and I still have the same problems (if it's a line fault will that be the case that any broadband will do the same?).
Does anyone have a number for Orange UK support I can call??
What do you advise? I also looked at getting a dongle pay as you go but they seem very expensive.0 -
if you're moving in a couple of months, DON'T change provider as virtually all will have a min contract period in operation. If you take the face plate off your phone socket, is there another phone-type socket behind the plate? If so, plug filter direct into that, and just the router into the filter, and see what it does then. If it's still the same, report it as a broadband fault.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Hi - I have no socket behind the faceplate and that is the only phone socket in the whole house. I have no idea why we have no master socket.
Orange customer service are useless I wish I could get through to a UK technical advisor - Maybe I should ring the another line and then ask for UK support.0 -
as with most ISPs, you usually have to pester them repeatedly to get faults rectified. If you call them back, insist that you've done the troubleshooting with them before, and it needs looking at in more detail.
The fact that making a call brings it back up means it's an intermittent line fault......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I am on the case with Orange it has been escalated to a level 3 fault??? I am waiting for a call back. It was quite good that I have tried all the suggestions given by you helpful people as they would have made me go through all of that first and I could tell them I had already tried it all. It's still bust though!!0
