We have some characters from a debt collection agency ring up every few weeks after a Mr Simpson, who our neighbour informs us has never lived here (she has lived in our stair getting on for 30 years). One particularly bolshie type accuses me of being Mrs Simpson. And then gets really upset and threatens all kinds of things when I start saying things like "So how old is Mr Simpson and what does he look like? do you think he is worthy as a potential partner?" or "Why are you looking for him? Is he your partner? has he run off and left you?" He goes on about how all these calls are recorded balh blah blah - he claims to be from some outfit called Pecks/Apex...something sounding like that.
Recently there has been some other company enquiring after him, - I don't know if they are some subsidiary of Apex or a totally different crowd. My latest tactic is to tell them I don't believe them. This usually throws them. As in "I don't believe Mr Simpson really exists and I don't believe you are holding any outstanding debts that relate to the said fictitious character. In fact, I think you sound like a scam artist."
Beware of firms who only ring and don't ever write, even if you are the one they are looking for. They could be an entirely different breed - con artists rather than legitimate debt collectors.0 -
The wife was contacted by them last thursday asking for me by name when she asked the chap as to what this was about he just kept saying data protection. So on putting phone down she rang me in abit of state panicking that we'd not paid a bill or forgotten one.i asked her if they had left a number on ringing them i explained what had just happened when i was then told of an outstanding debt of 401.22 on a b.t account. This though is were the real problems start.
The chap on phone then read out the account address which this debt was for which isn't mine and hasn't been mine as we have live in our present home for over ten years, the debt had been accrued in the last few month. On my disgust and a few raised voices he could only say you need to contact b.t fraud department. I contacted b.t being pushed from number to number to department finally to be told that the name on top of the bill wasn't mine nor did our phone numbers match so who and why was an x directory contacted. I have this morning spoke with b.t a i sent them an email requesting soME kind of apology but they still claim that the problem or fault lies with fredricksons international please can you advice as to who's in the wrong AND WHAT CAN I DO KNOW.0 -
About 2 years ago i had a letter from them regarding a debt that had already been paid.
I simply photocopied the letter and wrote (in big letters using a red marker) "GO FU@K YOURSELVES" and returned it.
Not heard anything since..0 -
Hi
I'm a new member but I do often take advise from these forums and wondered if anyone can help me? I have received two letters from this frederickson international. they relate to a debt with T Mobile from January this year. I ran my phone bill up to £200 + and I was cut off for a month whilst I paid this off. I did pay it off in January and was reconnected, however just one day later they cut me off again advising it was due to my new bill being over £180 the thing is I was cut off for a month so it was impossible to have run up a bill when I had no use of my phone how could this be? I argued it out with them and told them if they didnt sort it out I would cancel the contract and not pay them another penny. they refused to do anything or help me or explain it so I cancelled my direct debit and havent paid them anything since. I havent heard anything and have actually moved house. as it is I know the person who lives in my old house and she has passed on some post. two letters have come from this frederick international, the first one is dated 22nd November and states the debt as being £439.98 it then adds intrest, court fees and solicitors costs bringing it to £555.18 where has this figure come from? the debt was for £180 or thereabouts. the letter says that if I dont ring up and pay the full balance then it will be taken to a county court or sherriff court and I will be unable to obtain credit (i cant get credit anyway) it gives me 7 days. obviously as I dont live at that address I havent responded as I only got the letter passed on today. on the 13th december they sent me another letter advising they have recommended their client to send a solicitor to the address (the address where I dont live) they also state that if I pay within 48 hours of the receiving the letter they will not take further action as 'a guesture of goodwill'. it also mentions 'despite a recent letter from Bryan Carter Solicitors' I havent received a letter from this solicitors either.
what do I do? I dont want to pay the debt as I dont believe I owe it but I dont want to write to them or give them any of my details as at the moment they dont know where I live. I dont own or rent a house I live with my parents and I dont drive or have any assetts not to say that I'm untraceable but I'm as close as I can get to being. Am I best to bury my head in the sand and ignore these letters? will they eventually give up and leave me alone? or if it does go to court will the court take into account that A) as far as anyone knows I have never received these letters as they were sent to an old address and b) that my phone was cut off so there was no bill in the first place?
any help and advice on this would be much appreciated0 -
Got a problem with F.I.
Received a letter in October 12 saying that i owed HMRC £550 for unpaid NI and they were collection enforcement for said debt. I phoned them and disputed the amount as I have been full time employed for many years. They came back to me just before christmas saying that HMRC had made an error and that I now owed £236. I phoned them immediately and got pushed into making a token payment of £36 with the £200 being payable the first week in January. During my conversation with the collector I did ask for proof of what years the NI was payable for and a breakdown. Havent recieved any breakdown as requested but I am now getting calls and texts from 3 different numbers requesting I make further payment.
I have been onto HMRC myself and they confirm that I dont owe any NI up to May 08 when full time employment started but i may owe NI contributions for when i was self employed.
Should i wait for the official breakdown from HMRC and ignore F.I. until i get it or fire a letter into them disputing the charge until I get clarification of when the charges are for?
Any help would be appreciated.0 -

Fredrickson international have tried to use their tactics on me. I recommend that you only communicate with them in writing. This will ensure you have a clear audit trail to follow and know exactly who has said what where and when. Never never never give your phone numbers. Don't respond to text messages phone calls or letters buy phone. keep copies of all correspondence you send to them. I agreed to set up a payment plan with them (in writing) only to have them 10 days later say i'd not replied to their letter and that they would take further action with me incurring court fees etc. I promptly sent them a copy of my letter to them(details of payments and due date) and a copy of their letter of acceptance. I then told them that as they had accepted my offer of payment the court would not take any further action as I had not reneged on the agreement and that i'd ask for costs etc, to be paid by them and not me. Funny how 3 days later I got a reply the same as their original letter accepting my repayment plan. If in doubt ask questions and get help. If you have to set up a payment plan make sure its not a recurring payment as these can be difficult to stop and only pay what you can afford.0

Hello.
I am currently in the process of paying of debt which was passed on to FI by Vodafone. My phone was stolen in 2012 and the person who stole it ran up a bill of £200. Unfortunately I was aboard at the time and it took me 48 hours to cancel the sim. I appealed the charges with Vodafone originally as I had been a customer of theirs for quite sometime, the calls were made to Algeria and I generally don’t make international calls. I thought that the obvious might be pointed out to them and they would realise that I did not make these calls etc.. but no business is that selfless…
During the ‘appeal’ process they cut my service and still continued to charge me £40 a month for it. The last time I spoke with Voda, I told them that I would not pay for the service that they did not provide when my service was cut, why should I pay for a service that was not provided?
Anyway, months down the line I receive a letter from FI asking me to contact them about an ‘ issue’. I have no idea where the got my address from, but I am guessing it may have been the bank as I changed my address with HSBC right before the letter came.
I ignored the letter and 4 weeks later I received a ‘letter before action’. I contacted them as soon as possible out of fear and agreed to set up a payment plan. Perhaps, I should have waited before I took action, but I have been working hard to keep a good credit rating and I did not want this getting in my way. Shortly after I received a confirmation letter from them, which confirmed the balance I owed. They did advise that I owed £500 when I called, I started to question this and Vodafone closed my account over a year ago and at the time I owed about £300.
I called FI and asked them where these charges came from, they told me that £100 of the balance was for the ‘admin fee’ and that I owed Vodafone £400. I asked them to send me a break down of the charges present by Vodafone and I requested for a breakdown of their charges to be sent in writing. They ask that I send my request in writing and my account would be put on hold for 5 days. I sent the letter ASAP and received a response with in 7 days to confirm that the account would be held until I received my statements. I also requested that they do not take any more money from me until I suggest otherwise. At the beginning of this month, I was horrified to discover that they had taken a payment despite my request and despite my account being on hold, at this point I had not received any of the documents I had requested. I called them in a fit of rage, spoke with the supervisor and asked for a refund – which I got and asked that they cancel any up and coming payment, until I receive my letter.
At the beginning of last week, I received text messages from them asking that I call them ASAP on an 020 number. I called them on the Wednesday and they were trying to get in touch to find out when I was going to pay the balance. For a third time, I told them that I would not make any more payments until I receive my letter. They advised me that the break down from Voda can take WEEKS to come, which I was not advised before and I still not received a break down from them, as I wanted to know more about this so called admin fee and to see if they were adding on other charges. They once again agreed to hold the account. On Saturday, I received a letter from their solicitors asking me to pay the balance within 14 days or contact FI to settled the balance.
I called FI immediately asking why I received the letter as there has been continuous correspondence??? They said they would hold my account and there was probably only 2 days where the account wasn’t held and the balance was floating. They did not suggest that I had to pay anything whilst my account was on hold, so why are they sending my such letters? I was told to ignore the letter and I received a break down of my balance today, which I could have checked on line, very basic letter, which seemed a little pointless and I had to discover that I could check my balance online for myself.. and no letter from Voda…
I really don’t know what to do from here…. I can understand paying for the calls that were made when the phone was stolen as I have seen this happen to may people, but I don’t feel that I should pay x&y for the service when they deactivated my line…
In addition, I don’t feel that I am liable to pay FI’s admin fee as I am not the one who asked them to manage my debt, shouldn’t Voda be the ones responsible for this as they requested their services…
I have just left Uni and I am struggling as it is, just like everyone else. These people don’t care how much distress they cause people and the stress of this has put a strain on me and I have been in bad health since.
Any advice would be more than greatly appreciated..
