we are currently in an IVA. As most of our debt was with the bank our old current accounts were held at hubby opened a basic account with barclays before the IVA went through last month. No overdraft no chequebook. All fine.
Last week we both went into the bank to put me on the account (opened in the same branch) All my ID fine but when it came to ordering me a debit card she credit checked me!!! When I failed she said I couldnt get a card. The only solution is for hubby to cancel his card as apparently its a electronic connect and reorder a new one without the connect and only then can I order one!!!!! When we queried it hubbys card says cheque quarantee £50 on the back which makes it an electronic connect - even though cheque guarantees are now obsolete.
Took nearly an hour and a half in branch.
So be warned even in branch they credit check you without telling you!! Its only cause I failed she told me.0 -

You can't have a cheque guarantee card on a basic cashcard account. It must be a full current account your husband hasDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0 -

According to the online application form, if they turn you down for the overdraft account they may offer you the cashcard account instead, without needing another application.Ill go there tomorrow.. Maybe I'll be allowed to open an account"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
