Barclays basic account doing a credit check

As the title says, I've noticed a credit search even though I applied for a basic account online. I thought they didnt need to do a credit check 
Debt in June 2011: Debt amount £1248
Credit score: 406:mad:
Debt in Jan:Debt amount £0
Credit score: 715:T
Got my first credit card in December 2011

i think your credit checked even on basic bank accounts i was for the co cashminder so i assume barclays would be the same.0

does barclays advertise the fact they don't credit check you ?
i thought all basic bank accounts would follow the same process.0 -

Theres the answer then you cant make an application for a basic bank account online.
You would have made an application for a current account hence the full credit search.

google search top result for Barclays basic account is

- "This could suit you if: You want a straightforward basic bank account"
also states "basic bank account at top of browser"
this is not a "basic bank account"
The "basic bank account" is the cash card account
