Barclays basic account doing a credit check

As the title says, I've noticed a credit search even though I applied for a basic account online. I thought they didnt need to do a credit check :/
Debt in June 2011: Debt amount £1248
Credit score: 406:mad:
Debt in Jan:Debt amount £0
Credit score: 715:T

Got my first credit card in December 2011 :D

    Also knocked my credit score from 505 to 490 grrr

    i think your credit checked even on basic bank accounts i was for the co cashminder so i assume barclays would be the same.

    In the first instance then you need to contact the branch where the application was made and ask them to remove the credit search if you only requested a basic bank account.

    Barclays credit check for basic account, pretty much they all do.

    does barclays advertise the fact they don't credit check you ?

    i thought all basic bank accounts would follow the same process.

    You would have made an application for a current account hence the full credit search.

    Hmmm I was pretty damn sure I went for the basic account...Well I'll expect a decline letter soon.

    google search top result for Barclays basic account is

    http://www.barclays.co.uk/CurrentAccounts/Keepitsimple/BarclaysBankAccount/P1242557963758 the website states

    - "This could suit you if: You want a straightforward basic bank account"

    also states "basic bank account at top of browser"

    this is not a "basic bank account"

    The "basic bank account" is the cash card account

    and you cannot apply for that online
