Paypal advice please

I listed a phone on gumtree and had an email straight away saying someone would have it and pay by paypal with postage. Immediately thought fantastic pay it in. They paid it in but what they neglected to tell me is that they were in nigeria!! I thought ok, fair enough, he'd paid me £50 more then i was asking for so that should cover the postage and paypal costs. Been to PO and it'll cost me £66 to send it so it is absolutely guaranteed to get there. Got home and had a think and doubt is in my mind as he obviously neglected to tell me he wasnt in the uk and to be perfectly honest i'm not comfortable sending a £400 phone to another country where they could possibly say they havent received it and claim money back through paypal. Anyway, to cut the story down, i decided i was not comfortable sending it so emailed the guy and said i was going to cancel the transaction and get his money refunded. He has since gone on to threaten me saying he's "going to get me into trouble" if i dont get his phone sent out tomorrow morning or his money refunded tonight. The money is showing as pending in my paypal account so hasnt actually gone in so how do i go about refunding this? Thank you :-)

Oh come on...this is so obvious a scam and just about the most obvious one there is.

Not only would i be running for the hills but I would be changing all my passwords about now. I am very concerned that you say payment is pending in your paypal account, that suggests the 'funds will be released on shipment' scam and if you followed any links to log in they probably have access to your paypal even now.

Clean the PC entirely, tech board will help, change all your passwords even your email ones and ignore any more correspondence from the scammer.

You've been given all the advice needed for this "sale", but there's one more thing that you should bear in mind when you relist.
Been to PO and it'll cost me £66 to send it so it is absolutely guaranteed to get there

There is no way to guarantee 100% that the phone will arrive at its destination, and if it failed to do so, the maximum compensation that Royal Mail will pay out for mobile phones sent overseas is £46.
Even if you opt for extra insurance, there is still a £46 limit for mobiles.

fair enough, the po miss guided me then, they told me the extra insurance would cover for £400 no matter what was in it. I'm not having a very good day am i?

It seems that a lot of Post office staff don't know about this restriction which covers both Airsure and Int's signed for.

    http://www2.royalmail.com/delivery/delivery-options-international/international-signed/faqs#21300223
In addition, extra compensation is not available for items containing mobile phones (so the maximum compensation for the loss or damage to a mobile phone is the value of 100 First class stamps per package sent).
    http://www2.royalmail.com/delivery/delivery-options-international/airsure/details#102100849
Extra compensation is not available for mobile telephones (including PDAs, Blackberries and etc) sent via Airsure®. Therefore, the maximum compensation payable for loss or damage to a mobile telephone is 100 times the price of a First class Stamp (currently £41)
(should be £46, but obviously not updated yet)
