Work in a school - hours cut for Sept

    I have worked in a school environment for the past 8 years and we are only allowed to use fixed term contracts if it is specified that the post is attached to a specific funding stream, and if that funding stream ceases the post goes with it. We have never had more than two or three fixed term contracts for a TA in all that time.

    It does sound like the OP is only just finishing their very first year within a school the way I'm reading it. Certainly at schools in my LEA I know of people who have had fixed term contracts for longer than a year but whose hours have changed at the end of each year, which is why the OP needs to find out exactly what type of contract they are on. Like I said if it is a permanent one then no they can't just change the hours without new contracts being drawn up and agreed to.

    I do not quite agree with you, they can change the hours to whatever they like if they follow the correct process, no agreement from the postholder is required. It will be like it or lump it. I certainly do agree, that the OP needs to be in a union sharpish.

    Op, is this primary or secondary? Academy/Foundation or LA?

    June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

    July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550

    October challenge £100 a day. £385/£3100

    If the OP is on a permanent contract then it definitely needs further investigation, it's the fact they put most of the TA's are angry over this making me wonder if they have a lot of staff on fixed term or if something a bit dodgy is going on

    Indeed they do, but if the OP has been working 8.30-1 five days a week for a whole year with no variation, this shouldn't be the contract they are on. For a start it would mean they would be getting shafted over sick pay/holiday pay etc.

    Usually the contract hours are agreed on an annual basis.

    Holidays don't usually apply - depends on if they are on term time or all year round contract. The hourly rate paid may include holiday pay

    Sick pay is standard.

    TTO still get paid holiday. If you work 39 weeks, you would get paid for 44 (or thereabouts) out of the 52. This is a whole other thread that repeatedly crops up on here.

    Sick pay is standard? What does this mean? If someone works 37 hours a week and someone works 20 hours a week, if they are both off they both get paid the same amount? No, the day's pay for the 37 hours is more than the 20hrs
