Is it against ebay rules to mail other sellers to see if they've had the same complaint?
I'll edit it after typin this hun don't worry...
It's not against the rules, you just need to mail and ask if they have had any problems with this seller. Don't say what problem you are having, just let them come forward if they have Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

He's said it's water damaged and will cost £49 to repair. Is it possible for a water ressistant watch to get water damaged?
I have a Tag watch (well bought it for b/f) and know about this
It's also water resistant (up to 100m or something like that), but the silly man wore it in the swimming pool with the pin slightly out so it got water in it and got damaged.
I spoke with Tag about this and they said that there are only two possible ways that water could have got into his watch:
 1. Wearing it in water with the pin out
 2. Wearing in in a high pressure shower sometime can get water in it
ie. the only way it can get water in it is if you wear it outside of the manufacturer's guidelines
Either way, if it is suffering from water damage, it's not going to cost £49 to fix, it's going to need a complete service as the dial and insides will have to be cleaned /replaced (which in our case was over £200.....perhaps a lot more I can't remember now as it was about threee years ago)."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0

It could be that he has bought a faulty one, and is trying to con you that the one that is faulty is the one that you sold him. This happened to me years ago when in the 2nd hand business, someone bought a tv off me, working perfectly, as we had had it working for a couple of weeks in back of shop, they brought it back 2 days later saying the tube was faulty, - found out later they had swapped it. I don't know if your watch had a seriel number or any id on it.0
-
I have done it in the past, you need as much info as you can get. Obviously on target the ones with a reasonable value.0
-
probably did have a serial number but i doubt my mate took a record of it.
With the water damage i had it here for a month before we got round to shipping it so it's highly unlikely it was done before it left if it worked when he got it.0

Get your mate to root through any papers he has - there may be a seriel number on an old receipt.0
-
            will have to, cheers0

It may be a bit late now in this case, but one should always keep records of serial numbers where applicable, to stop scammers swapping with faulty goods.
In any case, I'd ask them to forward the shop's quote for repairs, and see what happens.0

i usually do keep a record of them and pretty sure i told my mate to put it on the auction but it isn't there.0

Can I point something out... (it's a technicality but meh...)
Water Resistant is different to Water Proof.
If you offered "water resistant" he has no recourse, as water resistance effectively offers some resistance against water. It does not repel it entirely and should not be submerged.
(Should he have worn it incorrectly causing water damage, he also has no recourse).
Stand perfectly resolute, advise the buyer you have the serial number (whether you do or not), and that before any refund is offered you would like visual proof of the damage on the watch with the matching serial, as you have pre-posting pictures to compare the "damage" to. You can suggest this is your standard procedure for any disputes or problems.
You will then "make an assessment of the damage" to determine if it has happened after posting.
If he's trying to pull a swift one then he's got an old one and is trying to pass it off as the one you sent. Seems all too suspicious. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0
