Buyer says it's faulty..

Where do you stand?

I sold a genuine Tag Heuer watch on behalf of a friend on Ebay, the buyer received it around 12th December so he's had it 2 weeks.
He left me feedback saying it's great but today i've had a message saying he put it on for the first time today and it didn't work. It's worked for the 12 years my mate had it, was working when it was shipped and he didn't say anything when he received it.

He's said it's water damaged and will cost £49 to repair. Is it possible for a water ressistant watch to get water damaged?

Where do you stand on something like this, it worked when it was sent out, seemed to be working when he received it but he didn't wear it for 15days and then it's faulty and took it straight to a shop to be looked at? Seems like a scam to me but your thoughts please.

How did you accept payment? If Paypal, I would remove any money you have in the account now. Did you keep the tracking receipt?

I would do nothing as the buyer has had the watch for 2 weeks and anything could have happened in the time period he had it.
  • it was paypal and the money has been spent. He's not asked for a refund but seems like he's wanting something towards it.

Strange thing is he has over 500 feedback at 99.6%

Surely if you buy a watch, the first thing you check is whether or not it is keeping time?!

SG, Sounds like they have either knackered it up or have received a new one for Christmas/changed their mind/was a gift and the recipient already had one etc etc

Have a look at his bidding history, see if everything looks above board.

If you're gonna reply to him, ask him why he left feedback without checking it was keeping time first and also if he has taken it to a shop to be looked at, would he be able to get some 'proof' from this shop that it is actually water damaged, not forgetting this guy could have damaged it himself.

Deffo sounds like he's having you on - if he paid a few bob for it, why would he wait until today to wear it? Surely he'd have it on over Christmas??

If he paid by Paypal - did you send it by special delivery?

Cross posted with you sorry...if he hasn't asked for his money back, what exactly is he after?

It's not like your gonna pay him for a repair without knowing exactly where he took it, what the exact damage is and how much it is going to cost is it?!

looking in his feedbacks, he has sold watches as well....maybe he buys to sell on later...
  • you'll need to edit yours as well seeing as you quoted me.

Is it against ebay rules to mail other sellers to see if they've had the same complaint?
