OS Daily Wednesday 13th July

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday, 13th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Good morning everyone,
Up early and it's fairly cloudy. Need to take the Hovel dog for a walk soon. He will be suprised - I'm usually still in bed!
Have to go out and get a couple of things the shop had ran out of yeaterday. And a paper as it's jobs night. Wonder if there'll be any jobs for my OH. £100k a year, 2 days a week that sort of thing haha. Job insecure at the moment so looking for something else.
I'm re-reading the Tightwad gazette at the moment to get some good ideas about living on 3p a week :)
Hope everyone has a good day and ((hugs)) to people that need them xx

    Good morning Folks,
    Dull & grey here today.
Didn't wash the loose covers yesterday. Decided to wait until we have sunshine and a breeze to make sure it gets dry. We were forecast showers yesterday although I didn't see a drop.

Dinner tonight is freezer forage for 3 - I need to get looking in a minute. Got to jump in the shower now and get into gear for work.

Have a good Wednesday peeps. Hugs to all those in need or want them. Hope DS is good today Molly.
    Cheers m'dears, Silver x

    Morning all,

Dull and overcast here this morning and a bit chilly, doesn't feel like summer.
It is sports day at school this morning so I better take my coat for standing on the field.

Tonight I am going to watch the year 6 play at DD2s junior school, they are doing the Wizard of Oz and have chosen all the tallest children to be the munchkins. DD2 is quite tall so she is munchkin number 7. The plays are always very funny so it should be very enjoyable.

I think we will have to grab fish and chips on the way home from the play tonight as we haven't got time to eat beforehand.

Hester Hope that your DS recovers soon.

Hugs to all that need them.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

Morning all, Managed to bribe the children NOT to have wet beds last night - 10p a night! (well they don't have any pocket money). Have to whizz the hoover around this morning and then I'll be off to the boys sports day. No cheering allowed by my youngest. Am planning to attack the garden tomorrow - everything needs doing as we've been neglecting it due to clearing out MILs house. Had a lovely dinner last night - made a meat loaf with some beef mince, a packet of stuffing and grated cheese on top. The boys ate it all up yipee. Dinner tonight - well we have swimming lessons on Wednesdays so it needs to be something quick and easy - perhaps pizza from the freezer with salad from the garden. Better get on or we'll all be late!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Really, grey, cold and blowing a gale here. Struggled to get up this morning. Only one more night and I'm on holiday for 18 days:j.
No money to go anywhere though although I'm trying hard to find the money to take DS to Legoland.

Off to clean for Mum this morning. We've got HM chicken soup for te and HM rolls.

MOLLY what a terrible thing to happen to your boy, hope he's ok

Hugs to anyone who wants one.
    Have a good day all

    Morning All

Just been catching up on yesterday's thread.

Molly (((((Hugs))))) i hope DS is ok.

Lame Wolf..... I get my stardrops at B&M in Bletchley if that helps any x

Off to freezer shop today ...... I defrosted the chest freezer yesterday and did a bit of a stock check .........believe it or not I already have my turkey , gammon, pork and beef for Christmas in there, plus sausage rolls and prawns :j so that is a big expense that I won't have to find when Christmas gets here, I also have quite a few presents as well and I am knitting a lot more, plus £194 in the sistercass fund ( £1 a day in a pot to save for Christmas for the newbies)
so I am now feeling quite relaxed :)

Well I had better get my self in the shower and get DS off to school

    Have good days all x

    Morning everyone

Cloudy and overcast with a brisk wind here this morning. DH up and off to work early but not stupid early o'clock, so he brought me a cuppa in bed before he left.

Was told at work yesterday that we are facing more job cuts, our dept have only just been looked at Christmas and the new cuts are going to be by the end of this year - it's much more severe this time, I'm hoping to still have a job even if it's on reduced hours - we'll have to wait and see! :o

Dinner last night was quickie as DS1 had Cadets, tonight we're having roast chicken, pots, cauli/broccolli cheese, carrots, yorkshires and gravy. Am looking forward to my days off this week, just have to work until 11.30am this morning as have taken an hour that I'm owed - but DH and I are going away on Friday and the boys are being looked after by the grandparents - so be nice to have some time away just me and him, think some quality adult time is in order!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Good Morning chums, typical I have a day off from the school run and I'm still up at silly o'clock. But I suppose it gives me a chance to whip the Dyson around and straighten up a few things indoors before I go out.I am going with DD (as its her day off) to get some holiday clothes today as we are on a countdown only 31 days until we go.The three youngest boys still don't know that we are going and we never tell then until a week before. At the moment they think that with Mum and Dad both going off to work & Granny will be looking after them for 6 weeks. They are at the moment thinking up inexpensive days out (they know me so well bless them )for us to go on.:):) So far we have a small list ranging from crabbing at Whitstable (about half an hour away) several days down at the local Riverside Country Park.A ride on the river boat on the Medway (not too expensive)and various castles Dover ect that we can get to and go in as I have the three of them on my English Heritage card membership.Plus of course getting some DVDs from the local library (for rainy days at home ) For that we will have popcorn and ice creams to eat. Cheap cinema and no travelling.Plus of course some days crafting with esmf73's brilliant craft book. (thank you so much its great )I have been collecting all sorts of bits for a crafting day. Then there is the local woods to take the dogs for a walk in.So the holidays will soon fly by.but from 14-28th of next month unbeknown to them we will be at Ventor on the Isle of Wight at the holiday house which is situated 100 yards from the beach so it will be little boys heaven.
We have saved around £180 in Tesco vouchers over the year, and I have a big box of tinned bits and household stuff that we have also accumulated from BOGOFFs so it cuts down on the food bills a bit.Its the only way DD and tribe can get two weeks away at the seaside. The boys all have their own buckets and spades and stuff for the beach which is stored in my conservatory so we actually spend very little .My left over cash from my food purse every month is tucked away for days out and ice creams so we are all organised. We have been having a holiday like this for the past six or so years, graduating from a large caravan to now a rented house as the boys have grown bigger. Its quite an old fashioned holiday, but one of Bens mates is really envious as he says 'you always seem to have more fun that I do' Yet this lads parents are loaded and take him to exotic spots around the globe.Shows that lots of money doesn't always make you happy. His pal wants to come with us but his parents have said no as they are going to one of the spanish islands for their holiday .Ben (15)will pack his fishing rods and be happy as larry sitting fishing all day .That's his idea of a good holiday .Me I will pack my Kindle and a few other books and some knitting and will be quite happy sitting watching the boys on the beach and serving out the food stuff. We always have a slap up meal out on the last night but mostly do picnics and flasks.
Well time I got a wriggle on and had some breakfast and a shower then its off to DDs and then I think maybe Maidstone or canterbury depends what she fancies to get a couple of T shirts and a few bits.have a good day everyone what ever you maybe doing
    Cheers JackieO xx

    Morning all,

Nice day here again, with a bit of a breeze, have got a small wash on. Supposed to be at work today but I am not sure I am going, will go and have a shower and see how I feel, my throat is very sore, and I have aches and pains all over, even my cheek bones were hurting last night, I think a day resting might help.

Gnocci salad and garlic bread for dinner tonight, which is all fairly easy, dd is off out with her best (boy) mate today, they get on so well, he is very funny, and I know he looks after her, he is a really nice lad and has been bought up very well.

DD and I went scrumping yesterday, and came back with a carrier bag full of cherry plums :T, will be looking for some recipies later on, OH found a normal plum tree on his walk last night, and there is a damson tree at his work which I am allowed to pick :T I love this time of year when everything is ready to pick / preserve.

Congrats to Topsy :T:T well done on the new job xxxx

Hugs where needed, better dash xx
