On June 30th I got accepted for an HSBC advance account, I got sent a signature request letter and the account would be opened.
So instead of putting it in the post, it said I could also drop it into my local branch - which I did. Still no sign of a debit card or anything, decided to ring and this took a bit of explaining!
Finally was told no paperwork has been received:mad: So has the branch forgotten to send it off or have they sent it to the right department?
Think it was a Coventry address, not impressed to be honest.
Sending stuff by 'internal mail' wouldn't that only take a day?

When i applied for my HSBC (in branch) current account, i got the sort code and the account number on the DAY, got the debit card the NEXT DAY and pin number the day after the debit card arrived - first class service right there.
    no paperwork has been received

This means they lost it, or its in the bin, - ya should of just used online banking and upgraded that way, no paperwork boll0cks

(something is wrong with your application) Maybe you overlooked something via the details? or they lost in the post.

Maybe next time, apply in branch - walking in the branch with your passport/driving license and proof of address - to busy ? if thats the case, they are open on Saturday ya know. :)

  • Internal mail is overnight.

It is possible the branch have sent it off and it's been caught up with something else in the post bag, and thus not scanned on to your account upon receipt.

Pop into a branch, complete a new signature card, and away you go. They should be able to complete it then and there for you.
Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!

Thanks for replies, well I rang a phone number if you wish to open a bank account by telephone. I explained to the adviser why I had had no contact etc, anyway she put me onto another team. I was told the branch had sent the signature form, but for some reason the account opening team hadn't 'activated' it?
A few hours later she rang me and said it had been given priority, checked my internet banking next day as I have a savings account and it was showing:j

But day 18 after being accepted still no debit card, cheque book, although it was someone's fault in their account opening team who hadn't activated the returned signature form, oh well, hope card turns up tomorrow:eek:
  • Cards, PINs, cheque books, and credit books should arrive wihin 7 working days of the account being opened - this would be the day it appeared on internet banking.

They have to be printed, manufactured etc, then posted out - it can't happen the same day the account is opened, that is impossible!

HSBC offer you £10 if you are switching your account to them and there is a delay.

    See here for more details.

Well, another update, got a call from a the same woman that helped me with my enquiry. I said to her is my card on its way?
She said 'no' as when you did the application you didn't tick the box for a card? I really cannot remember a 'tick' box for a debit card?
I thought a debit card came with the Advance current account?

So she said I'll order one now, but it will be sent to your nearest branch to be picked up. Now I don't have a dodgy address, Halifax who are well known to be security conscious sent my Clarity credit card and reward debit card, never no problems.

So day 20, no card, cheque book, just disappointed really.

A replacement card form FD was with me the next day after I requested it, so they can be made and sent out quickly if the bank chooses to.

I don't know about HSBC, but from my experience of post rooms, when I worked in one about 15 years ago the "internal mail" was just put in one large envelope and sent out via royal mail.
