  • We bought our first house in 2001 aged 19 & my now hubby was only just 18! We bought a 2 bed terraced for £34,500 just before house prices started to rocket. 2 house moves later, we have a £130K mortgage but are looking to start overpaying as soon as we have done all the alterations we want to!

We bought our first (and only) home 15 years ago when I was 20 and DH 23 for £44,950 - 10 more years to go, unless we get into gear on the overpayments.

Haven't read any of the replies to this, but thought I would add me own anyways. We bought our first house in 2003 when we were 21 and 22, made £20K in the 2 years we owned it, sold up and now own our second house for a hefty mortgage (but the £20K sure helped!).

  • I bought my house for £46,500 (mortgage of £43,500) in 1991 when I was 31. I paid off the mortgage 2 years ago and am now in the process of selling it for £142,000.

Now, do I stay in the market or do I have the guts to rent and wait for the downturn in property prices?

My first mortgage was at age 18. Bought a starter home in 1989 for £45k with a 100% mortgage. sold it 3 years later for £33k!!!

If only I knew then what I know now! Oh well, can't look backwards, must look forwards!

3 years ago we got a mortgage for £172k and thought that was a massive amount but then in 1989 we thought that £45k was a massive amount. I wonder what will be the "massive amount" in 5 or 10 years time. I expect my children will look at my current mortgage with envy when it is time for them to get on the property ladder (they are only 11 and 12 now!).

  • Bought our house in 1999 when I was 27 and mrs saveme (then g/f saveme!) was 24. Left it too late imo but can't change that now (and didn't know it then). House was £68000 now worth £195000 with £79000 to pay (conservatory / kitchen / central heating went on there!).

Overpaying a little (£100 / mo) but need to find some savings elsewhere to o/pay more. With our 1st little one arriving in a couple of months this may go right out of the window but trying hard anyway! Want to be well-MF before uni bills so we can help out.

    Another inspirational thread :T
