A dishwasher should last more than 5 years.

Do you have any diy electrical knowledge or know someone who does? It might be worth opening it up and looking for obvious problems.

Even if you don’t want it anymore, if you can get it working again you can sell it or donate it to someone who would like it.
  • It's very likely to be a perforated heating element. Not very expensive to replace.

Electrical appliances in general are not designed to have much more than a five year life anymore.

You are probably right but it is a sad reflection on modern manufacturing practices.

My washing machine and tumble dryer (both Philips) are both well over 20 years old and still working fine. My Bosch dishwasher failed two years ago after 22 years solid service. I never spent a penny on repairs though I did have to fix the washing machine a few times when the drive belt worked loose.

My Smeg dishwasher has started to die and it's only 5 years old. 2 lights came on to tell me there was something wrong with the anti leak mechanism. I tried to call a service engineeer to see if it was worth repairing only to get through to a CALL CENTRE where I was told I couldn't speak to an engineer but one could be sent out for the princely sum of £74 plus vat.

So that's what is happening nowadays, not only do we have to pay for travel costs when we want an engineer to call out but we also have to pay for the staffing of a call centre which is staffed by people who have absolutely no useful information to give a customer except the exorbitant call out fees.

Now I'm looking for a replacement, by the time I would pay the call out fee, the engineers time and any part needed I could buy a new dishwasher.

Can you guarantee earl grey tea and mince pies plural?

Are you anywhere near Weybridge in NW Surrey or Glastonbury in Somerset? I live in the former and visit the latter occasionally.

If yes to both I would give it a go.:D

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
the first thing your dishwasher does when you power it up is activate the drain pump, the heaters do not come in until later, its more likely to be the drain pump if it trips instantly, or a loose wire that is shorting out. There used to be a spares wholesaler i used to use for parts called quick/kwick spare (or some variation) in enfield, if there still about they were one of the cheapest places in the uk for appliance spares
