Possibly ... which is why I suggested speaking to a lawyer. To be frank, you could probably repair her garage roof for her for less than the cost of the legal fees, much as that might stick in your craw.

Can you claim on your own buildings insurance? They may be able to provide legal advice also. Worth a phone call to ask.
If your insurance company will take it on, then they'll be the ones chasing the absent owner for the cost of the repairs. And they have more resources than you do.0 -
I'd be tempted to clear her driveway and rent her driveway out .... to pay for repairing her roof, to protect my property0

Keep complaining to the Council. Eventually their empty properties officer will decide to give her a 'repair-it, or lose-it' notice. The thought that the council can transfer her property into their ownership, then charge her for repairs, might make her get her ar5e in gear.
Of course, if you just happened to know a homeless person/s who are in need of a squat at least you know where to point them, and knowing that the owner has little or no interest in her house, in 10 years she will lose it due to squaters rights anyway.Never Knowingly Understood.

Haha! I like the idea of renting out her driveway...I do enjoy having her extra wheelie bin capacity!

Just thought I'd give an update as I have had some useful conversations with the council just now.
I have found out that the Planning Enforcement team have issued a Section 215 request to improve the appearance of the property, this means they are painting up the windows and door at the front of the house to improve the appearance. Under this bit of legislation they could have requested to demolish the garage as it was unsightly but they were concerned about the damage that it would cause the adjoining property...ie my property, but they didn't think to ask and now they have issued the 215 they can't amend it! :mad:
However, the Empty Homes Team have it on their list to issue an Empty Dwelling Management Order (EDMO) where they do not need the owners permission to renovate and rent out the property...
Also I have spoken to Building Control and reported that the collapsed garage roof is causing the structure of my garage to rot and they have said that they might be able to act quite quickly to demolish or repair if they deem the structure of my garage to be immediately dangerous.
So there is hope! :T0 -

I cannot understand why someone would want to leave such a property empty and decaying. Even if it is sentimental value, most people would want their possessions kept in a decent state of repair.Generation Rent0 -
Have you spoken to your home insurance? They might want to take this us, especially if they're going to wind up paying out for repairs.0
