Get out of contract?

Please can anyone help. My daughter and her partner entered into a new contarcts with Orange (pay monthly) who they have been with for years. Unfortunately after renewing the contracts for a further year they had to move (after the birth of their baby daughter) and there is little or no reception in the new area. She has contacted Orange and is getting absolutely nowhere. They have advised that they cannot get out of their contract without paying a great deal of money and since they do not have a lot of money (new baby etc) they are stuck with two phones that hardly ever work. Since this is their only line of contact with each other (and the baby was very unwell in the first two month) my daughter feels very cut off. It was suggested by one member of Orange staff that she go outside if she needs to make a phone call as the reception is slightly better. Not a good idea when you have a three month old! I would have expected better from Orange. She has even sent e mails explaining her situation but did not even get reply. Anyone got any suggestions please?:(

The only thing I can think of is try to sell the phones on ebay and recoup as much of the money as you can to pay the contract termination fees. Although I don't fancy your chances of recouping nearly enough. I've been in this situation before and looking at lots of people's viewpoints on here, things don't look good.

Or a family member or close friend could take over the contract...

I’m sorry this will sound harsh than I intend, but it’s better to be clear than nice in some cases.

Your daughter chose to move (and I realise it may be a forced move rather than a choice on her part) but that was not done by Orange, and it was not forced by anything Orange has done. No network guarantees coverage in all places and there will be something in the terms and conditions that cover that. As has been mentioned you she can sell the phones to try and pay off the contract or pass them to someone else who will take them on but that probably won’t clear the debt. If the baby’s health is that bad then they really need to think about a landline, there are a lot of reasons a mobile can fail, either through damage or loss or even a flat battery that could stop an emergency call.

The other option is to try emailing the Executive office who may be able to do something as a goodwill gesture, however it will be that goodwill, they have no obligation to help as they didn’t force the change.

I’m sorry this is not the answer you want but those are the options to be honest.
