Freesat is the platform that will have the most expansion in the next few years.

I thought this at first, but not so, all freesat signals have to be non encrypted, part of the freesat standard. this means that they can only be transited from Astra 2D which has a footprint that focuses more tightly on the UK because of media rights issues (epg is on Eurobird 1).

Astra 2D is full of sky channels, and whilst sky can move them to another Satellite, there not a lot of incentive for them to do it.

With FreeSat (and Skt) HD output restricted to 1080i due to the tight bandwidth available, Freeview will win-out on the HD front, with Freeview HD broadcasting in 1080p and capable of 1080p/50 (reactive 3D territory), I have a feeling that in a few years, Sky will be begging to buy a FreeviewHD channel to broadcast on.
