Thanks SAHD, I mean if the dish were to go out due to interference etc..

My disk only goes out under sever conditions (VERY heavy prolonged rain or heavy snow).
Snow is easy to fix, just give the receiver a quick brush.
In when it gets into autumn / winter i give it a quick squirt of WD40 and check the cables and tape them up from time to time.

(My dish is only 7-8 feet off the ground so it's easily reached without ladders ^__^ )

However, the possibilities of expansion of channels and services from Freesat are far more likely than with Freeview, which is already creaking at the seams with the number of channels it is providing now.

There is the potential for Freeview to double (ignoring HD) in size if all space freed by switching off analogue TV is used, more if the FreeviewHD standard is used for standard definition, more if the transmitters transmit on the same frequency.

There is however other possible uses for that part of the radio spectrum.

I got Freesat in the end, 3 x Freesat and Sky plus. All works excellently and looks very tidy inside and out. Not bad price either. Thanks for all your input.

Dunno I have one, why would I care that I can buy one cheaper than I paid  but £180 for a refurb from humaxdirect (and they are apparently worth looking at not that I know I paid 250 for a new one) .... if my browser flicks on me I will return in a sec with the links for the modded firmware (ps don't worry about bricking it either it is more or less impossible) will return and edit this one

    Edited: Wait a sec
