If you have to have a doctor to assess your autism as an adult and you can function fairly normally on a day to day basis, I would say that your autism must be mild and in which case you would probably get nothing or at best lower rate disability. It very much depends on how your disability affects your day to day life

For starters, I think it unlikely that a single appointment with your GP would tell you whether or not you are on the autistic spectrum: more likely they would need to refer you to a specialist for further evaluation.

Absolutely none unless you have care or mobility needs. So, can you look after yourself? Dress yourself? Cook a meal for yourself? Do your own shopping? Go out on your own? If the answer is 'yes', however 'odd' you may seem to your sister and anyone else who knows you it seems unlikely that you'd be entitled to DLA. If you're unable to find work, then it would be JSA / ESA. And you'll already know what rates they are paid at if you're not working, and if you are working then that's not relevant.

National Autistic Society may have useful information.

    Hi Ricardo,

You say that you don't like people, and have no friends, and yet in your profile you say that you are looking for a job as a carer!

This seems rather odd to me! And if you are looking for a carer's job, then it's highly unlikely you would have major care needs yourself, so would not qualify for the care component of DLA.

Do you have any mobility problems?

I was diagnosed with asperger's at the age of 33 & it was really difficult to claim anything as they presume that you must be able to cope alright to get to that age without any help.

My case was more complicated though as I also have depression as a result of having Cancer & numerous surgeries so I was awarded IB & eventually DLA (after a 2 year fight).

I think I heard you say you were 48 & had managed to work as a HGV driver, this will probably go against you.

It will also take a while for you to get an official diagnosis as a GP isn't qualified enough so will refer you to a Pychologist who specialises in ASD's.

    Good luck.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.
