Switch to avast 6 free, better detections, faster, updates better

You shouldn't need to do full scans with resident AV software, it should pick infections up on access.

Do you by any chance also use CCleaner ?

I had a similar problem with the MSE icon regularly changing colour and showing I needed to run a scan though I had in fact run scans regularly.

After searching on Google I discovered this was a known problem with MSE and CCleaner. Apparently CCleaner was "too rigorous" in its cleaning and was deleting the registry keys required to show MSE's correct state.

When I unticked MS Antimalware in the Applications section of CCleaner it immediately solved the problem.

    Hope this helps.

How about if you include your 2TB storage device instead of just the SSD? :p

No sign of infection from that, but I'd TICK and FIX the following in HJT:
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {88c7f2aa-f93f-432c-8f0e-b7d85967a527} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: FLVBlaster.FLVBlasterIEAddon - {807ca0aa-7cb3-4f03-bd61-076f618cc82d} - mscoree.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GrooveMonitor] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe ARM] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\RunOnce: [mctadmin] C:\Windows\System32\mctadmin.exe (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\RunOnce: [mctadmin] C:\Windows\System32\mctadmin.exe (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
    O8 - Extra context menu item: Download with FLV Blaster - C:\Program Files (x86)\FLV Blaster\Addons\Internet Explorer\script.htm

Won't help the actual issue. I'd uninstall Java unless you need it, and it wouldn't hurt to trim more of the programs starting up with Windows using the Startup manager in CCleaner.

What JJscotsman says makes sense for MSE.

Yes, my similar problem with MSE was also very recent - last week in fact.

And, the solution I suggested immediately worked for me.

I mean let's be honest, if you truly had any 'groove' then you wouldn't need to monitor it... you'd just know!

Sorry, I'm lost on this, care to explain

Just a dumb joke, which is fairly usual for me! There's no significance to it.

It's confirmed here that there is a problem with the latest version of CCleaner!

Hopefully they will get it sorted pretty quick!

Thanks jjscotman for pointing it out!
