Hi folks, not sure why or how this has started happening, but my Dell laptop which I've had for about 1 1/2 years without any problems etc
however over the last week every time I switch on the laptop, my Security Essentials is always brown (warning) I could be at risk and need to scan, however there appears to be no problems/virus etc
the dell inspriron1750 has been running finer from day one with no real issues, until the last week
anyone know what's happened, anyway to avoid this every time I boot up etc, thanks

Try the starters:
Run a QUICK scan with Malwarebytes, clean anything it finds, post the log:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php
Download Hijackthis to the desktop. Hold LEFT SHIFT and RIGHT CLICK on the file on the desktop, and do Run as Administrator (or Run As, Current user, untick the box). SCAN and SAVE LOG, post the log that comes up in Notepad. Don't fix anything:

Check in "settings" that you have a tick in the "run a scheduled scan" box, or run a manual scan, should turn the icon green.
Beaten to it by TOG..0 -

Thanks for both swift replies, I would like to think I've got a clean laptop, I regularly scan (every week) with both a full essentials scan, this can take about 3-4 hours, also with Malwarebytes, again this can take 2-3 hours,
can't recall any serious virus/malware etc attacks, I'll run Malwarebytes now, and report back asap
don't think so, the only options I get are quick scan or full scanToxteth_OGrady wrote: »Have you selected a manual scan recently? If not you will see this.

also with Malwarebytes, again this can take 2-3 hours
That's the longest I've heard of for a full Malwarebytes scan.
I'd be more interested in your Hijackthis log in that case.
Full is unnecessary, you can go with a QUICK scan unless you really like the full scan. Quick scan finds 99.99% or what full scan does, only real reason to do a full scan is post-infection cleanup.0 -

got that, as you & TOG state, the odd thing is after I boot up, the brown warning icon comes on for essentials, after a quick scan (takes about 1 minute) this then turn green for all clear, yet its only started in the last week

How about if you include your 2TB storage device instead of just the SSD?
