no grants from the council, but some schools have their own system for the branded uniform
  • When my son started full time school we got a cheque for £20

the school usually sell second hand uniforms cheap....i always give them my sons jumpers etc. ask the receptionist

its really only the jumper with the school logo on that you need . I went in to order my sons was going to order 2 t shirts and 2 jumpers and the receptionist told me not to bother and just to get the jumpers as asda sell t shirts 2 in a pack for 3 quid.

How much are you planning on it costing roughly. Tesco/Asda or similar would cost around £20 for complete uniform, including basic, warm coat would you say? New term starts in 7 or 8 weeks. So if you put aside £2.50 per week, you can maybe try to provide the cost of uniform yourself from the benefits already received if all else fails.

We work on a similar principle although its wages rather than benefit, it's the same way of doing it. Knowing when the new term starts, we budget weekly or monthly so we know it'll be paid for when needed.
  • no grants from my council, although the secondary school give you 1 jumper if you are claiming free school meals, this is worth about £16,they also give you £20 a year off school trips.Always worth asking the school if they can offer any help.
  • thanks every one, i dont have a problem buying uniform i usually go to asda or tesco becuse they are good quality and cheap. i just wonderd if any one elses council did this that all, thanks for all your replies

Its cheaper to provide a uniform than it is to provide everyday clothes today so why would you assume you would get extra ontop of the nearly £80 per week (CTC+CB) you get for your child?

im not ASSUMING i will get anything im just interested in what other councils pay towards uniforms
