    Only secondary here.

    I think the logic is that you have to clothe your children anyway, and primary school uniform is usually the cheapest thing in a child's wardrobe-get the basics from the supermarkets plus one sweatshirt with the school logo if really necessary. Lots of people here didn't bother with school-branded stuff, and it wasn't because they couldn't afford it.
    import this

    Its cheaper to provide a uniform than it is to provide everyday clothes today so why would you assume you would get extra ontop of the nearly £80 per week (CTC+CB) you get for your child?

    primary schools can't actually 'enforce' a uniform on the pupils (in state schools) as the child isnt deemed old enough to be responsible for what they wear. They can request one though.
    it's not very helpful in practice, as they can make things difficult and it wouldnt be nice for the child the be the 'odd one out'

    You can get a primary school uniform for a tenner, a secondary school uniform on the other hand coupled with the extras they need costs a heck of a lot more.

    All help towards school uniform was stopped around here at least ten years ago.

    I wouldn't say too much about the 'unfairness' as your local authority is much more likely to withdraw the upper school grant than it is to extend it to primary!

    We get £50 for primary and £50 for secondary.

    They've reintroduced uniform grants here (after many years with no provision at all) but have kept very quiet about it so it's worth double checking with your local council if you would be entitled.

    We have no uniform grants here...for either primary or secondary.
    We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
    Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
